True Image 2013 Plus Pack WinPE 4.0 (Windows 8) Need help! Stuck at step 5.

Thread needs solution

5. Integrate the True Image 2013 program into a new "AcronisMedia.wim" file using the "winpe.wim" file created in step #3

From the opening screen of the "Acronis WinPE ISO Builder", click "Next".
The screen that appears next is the path selection screen.

Point the "Acronis WinPE ISO Builder" to the folder "c:\winpe_x86" and
expand it to see the "winpe.wim" file.

Click the "winpe.wim" file.
See Windows_8_ADK_Screen_7.png

I did everything accordingly. Though I get message that I need to install acronis iso builder on a pc with WAIK. (not sure why it says WAIK and not ADK??)

I installed ADK (waiks equalavant on windows 8) just like the guide. and everything went fine until this step.

Any resolution?

Which build number of 2013 are you using?

The method to create the WinPE 4.0 Rescue Media ISO has changed between build 5551 and build 6514.

6514! And Im not gonna downgrade at any rate since I have had issues with the software not starting at all. So IM happy that it is starting now.

Hope you know solution.

The 6514 build method to create WinPE has changed from the 5551 method.

You need to install the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) for Windows 8. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30652 (Select only the Deployment Tools and the Windows Preinstallation Environment (WinPE.) during install.)

Once installed you would need open the Deployment and Assessment Command Prompt as an administrator. (Click Start, then type Deployment and look to the left in the results for the item, right click it and select "Run as administrator".)

Execute the command (in the command prompt window) "copype x86 c:\winpe_x86" (without the quotes). This creates the needed file structure and files for the WinPE ISO creator.

Open the Acronis WinPE ISO Builder and select the path to the WinPE files (C:\winpe_x86\media), click next and then select "Add components and create ISO", click next, then select the desktop as the location for the ISO file and give it a name, click next , then proceed.

Burn the resulting ISO to a CD/DVD with your CD/DVD burning software or Windows Disk Image Burner (right click the ISO file).

If successful delete the C:\winpe_x86 folder

OK thanks I did this. I can use iso for USB Stick too?

Now what do I proceed the guide further??? It talks about injecting drivers etc.

I use windows x 64 versions always, right now win 8 enterprise.

I have an asrock extreme 6 p67.

Do you think it's needed for me this injecting drivers?

Do I need this step? Or did we just did that?

. Create a bootable ISO using the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) for Window 8.

In order to be able to generate/create the bootable ISO using the Windows ADK for Windows 8, two files need to be copied to our "c:\winpe_x86" folder.

From the "Deployment and Imaging Tools Environment" command prompt,
Enter the following commands and press enter:

Be sure to use the correct commands below based on your version of Windows (32 bit or 64 bit).

If you are running a 64 bit Version of Windows 7 or Windows 8:

copy "c:\program files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.0\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Deployment Tools\x86\Oscdimg\etfsboot.com"
copy "c:\program files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.0\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Deployment Tools\x86\Oscdimg\oscdimg.exe"

If you are running a 32 bit Version of Windows 7 or Windows 8:

copy "c:\program files\Windows Kits\8.0\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Deployment Tools\x86\Oscdimg\etfsboot.com"
copy "c:\program files\Windows Kits\8.0\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Deployment Tools\x86\Oscdimg\oscdimg.exe"

Verify you have everything in order to be able to create the bootable ISO.
Enter the following command and press enter:

dir

You should see a list of folders, and the "winpe.wim", "AcronisMedia.wim", "etfsboot.com", and "oscdimg.exe" files.
See Windows_8_ADK_Screen-12.png

One last step before creating the ISO. We need to copy the "AcronisMedia.wim" file to the proper location and to the correct filename (boot.wim) to be able to create the bootable ISO.

Enter the following command and press enter:

copy "c:\winpe_x86\AcronisMedia.wim" "c:\winpe_x86\media\sources\boot.wim"

(You should be prompted to overwrite the "boot.wim" file. Type "y" and press "enter".)

We are now finally ready to create the ISO.

Enter the following command and press enter:

oscdimg.exe -b"etfsboot.com" -n Media "c:\winpe_x86\AcronisMedia.ISO"

You should now have an "AcronisMedia.ISO" file in the "c:\winpe_x86' folder that can be burned to a CD/DVD.

Verify that there is an AcronisMedia.ISO file in your "c"\winpe_x86" folder.

Enter the following command and press enter.

dir

You should see your newly created "AcronisMedia.ISO" file.

Reconhell,

You are confusing the directions for creating the WinPE 4.0 ISO on two different builds of 2013.

My original post was written when build 5551 was out, and it did not support WinPE 4.0 natively.

Build 6514 added native support for WinPE 4.0 (Windows 8 ADK).

The steps in the above post are all that are needed to build a WinPE 4.0 Rescue ISO with build 6514.

If you need additional drivers added to it, there are some additional steps, but you may not need to do them.

The files in the ISO can be extracted to a USB Flash drive and will allow you to boot from it.

If you need to add drivers, post #90 http://forum.acronis.com/forum/35238?page=1#comment-129245 has great step by step instructions for build 6514 of True Image 2013.

Thanks!! I succeeded.

One final question...

This only applies if you have GPT formatted hard drives that you want to backup from the WinPE media. Build 6514 has a bug and does not show GPT hard drives as a source for backup. As a temporary workaround follow these steps:
1. Get WinPE.zip from the Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\BartPE folder of build 5551. I did this by mounting an image made when True Image Home 2013 build 5551 was installed on the system.

I don't have this!!! my trueimage in winpe is 6514! How do I aquire this old exe then?

You can log into your Acronis account and download the previous version. You will need to uninstall build 6514 and install build 5551 and the Plus Pack for build 5551. Then unzip the WinPE.zip file to get the exe file. Next you'll need to reinstall build 6514. I know it's a lot of work.

I can't uninstall 6514 Because I have been having trouble with correctly running Acronis. (it used to freeze at boot when I tried opening it) However somehow I manage to fix it finally after many many tries. And now Im too scared to do anything with the installation. Can't I just aquire the .exe of someone who has already done so?

It would be greatly appreciated.

You'll need to acquire the exe file directly from Acronis as it is a violation of the license agreement for anyone else to distribute the file. Perhaps a PM to Oleg would work.

One way you could install 5551 without affecting your PC is as follows:

Create a virtual machine using virtualbox (freeware). It is really easy to do this. Then load an operating system (if you do not have a windows installation disk, I suggest you download the new windows 8.1 32 (not 64) bit iso from microsoft and the install code). The beginner guides on virtualbox show all the steps.

I know this sounds complicated, but really it is very easy. I have never setup up a VM before, but I did this in less than 30 minutes (download of iso took about 1 hour) and had it up and running.

Then download and install Acronis version 5551 and the pluspack in the virtual machine, and extract the trueimage file you need, and copy to a usb pendrive or writeable CD/DVD (or set up a shared folder between pc and virtual machine).

This way, you have not affected any of the newer acronis installations on your PC.
