TRUE IMAGE HOME 2010...RESTORE FROM BACKUP FAILED

My computer crashed after unsuccessful windows restore operation and wouldn't re-boot at all despite various methods....so Acronis to restore from the recent Acronis backup,...it got half way through the restore and froze, so used the Acronis boot disc and tried again, same thing, froze approx. half way through.
I have now re-installed Windows 7 64bit, completely updated it and virus protection and re-installed the progs I used most etc etc, but of course have lost all backed up files,docs etc.
The backup is still on the external disc, is it possible, and how, to extract individual files from it please so I can retrieve files
