True Image Home 2011 Build 6597 still lose backup status after recovery

Thread needs solution

My disk backup option is like this:

backup scheme
-> custom scheme
-> backup method: Full
-> Store no more than [3] recent versions

for example, I have three manually backed-up images:
WIN7_2010-12-21.tib
WIN7_2010-12-23.tib
WIN7_2010-12-25.tib

I recovered with the last backup WIN7_2010-12-25.tib. After recovery True Image Home 2011 only shows WIN7_2010-12-21.tib and WIN7_2010-12-23.tib available in the timeline of my backups. The last backup WIN7_2010-12-25.tib does not show up in the backup status and I have to manually open this last backup and it creates a new window in my backups (instead of adding an entry to the timeline of my backups).

The last backup should exist in the timeline after recovery, otherwise it is a bug or a design issue.

Thanks,
Beichuan Yan

It kind of makes sense though: ATI made a snapshot of your system when it started the 12/25 backup and at that time, the ATI database was not aware of that backup (yet). So when you restored it, the ATI database came back to its state just prior to the backup.

No, it does not make sense. If you set "Store no more than [N=1] recent versions", then after recovery you get this error "Not Backed Up Yet", check this post: http://kb.acronis.com/content/13388

I believe ATI 2011 build 6597 fixed the bug for the case N = 1, but have not fixed the case when N > 1.

In addition, in the post http://kb.acronis.com/content/13388: (!) It is recommended to create a new system backup after restoration. This recommendation is kind of weird, most likely due to the bug. Anyway, it is a recommendation, it is not a must. It should work if a user does not make a new backup after recovery.

I just tested the N=1 case, that is, I uninstalled (with clean up utility) and reinstalled ATI 2011 Build 6597, and then made only one backup image. After recovery, it still shows "Not Backed Up Yet".

So ATI 2011 Build 6597 claimed it fixed the "Not Backed Up Yet" bug, but actually it has NOT. This is very disappointing. I switched between 2010 and 2011 several times, now I decided to go back and stick to 2010. ATI 2011 may be the worst edition since I started using ATI many years ago, wasting so much time testing it. You can't image how many bugs it has as it tried to make a big jump creating a "time machine".

I am afraid that this is one of the new features of Version 2011. It is probably equally true of V2010 but I skipped that one!
I have noticed that if you openBackup and Restore in Windows 7 control panel you can get the full listing of all the backups that exist in storage. However in the Acronis program any backups that have been restored are no longer listed.

Definitely a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing. Or to put it another way the programer should be required to keep both hands in full view above the desktop at all times.

V2010 does not have a "time line" thing so it does not have such issue.

In V2011, it may be a design and even coding difficulty for the backup image to include itself's info into itself, say, at the moment the backup image is nearly completed and written into disk, it needs to add its own info like completion time into the image, this is almost impossible. I am very interested in knowing how Acronis programmer will handle this issue.

Hello all!

Thank you for your comments, and help! I understand how inconvenient the situation is, and will do my best to help.

The issue is reported to be fixed, since it was never reproduced it on the newer build. The database is checked immediately after the backup creation, and the information in the product is renewed. Thus should you have one backup finished, the information about it should be immediately displayed.

Since you report that it doesn't work, we will need to check it's cause. Please kindly submit (and let us know it's #) a support case with the following information attached:

  1. Acronis Info from the problem machine
  2. Exact sequence of steps performed
  3. Screenshot of the message
  4. Screenshot of the backup location

Thank you in advance for cooperation, we're looking forward to your reply.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please, let us know, we will be glad to help!

Thank you!

Hi Yana,

I tested true image 2011 build 6696 on Windows 7 x64, the problem is still there.

1. Acronis Info from the problem machine, see attachment.

2. Exact sequence of steps performed.
a) install true image 2011 build 6696.
b) create a Disk/Partition backup scheme.
->what to back up: windows_os(C:)
->destination: D:\TruI\WIN7_@date@_@time@.tib
->custom scheme ->backup method: Full ->store no more than [3] recent versions
->Advanced: check validate backup when it is created
->performance ->compression level: high ->operation priority: normal
c) click "back up now" to make just one backup.
d) later start true image and click "Recover", it will reboot and recover.
e) now look at true image, it shows WIN7_: not backed up yet.

3. Screenshot of the message, see attachment.

4. Screenshot of the backup location, see attachment.

Thanks and hope you can release a real fix.
