Try & Decide won't work

Thread needs solution

I know others have this problem, but I haven't seen an answer.  My try & Decide won't work.  It just says "failed to start Try & Decide".  I have downloaded the latest build (9796), and unistalled and reinstalled several times.  On one reload, the Try & Decide worked, but the software would not then verify backups.  I had to reinstall, and the Try & Decide would no longer work.  I am using xp sp3.  Can anyone help?

I did not get round to trying the Try & decide feature till after the 30 days free support had expired.  I have never bought software before with such limited help.  I think it is very sharp practice and should be illegal.

Check in Windows Services that you have a T&D service entry and that it is enabled, set to automatic and running.

There is no t&d service entry.  How do I get it there? I have reinstalled again, but no change.  There is an "Acronis Scheduler2 Service" entry.  I have tried running the software on my laptop, which has Vista.  There is no t&d service entry there either, and image home works perfectly, including try&decide.

Interesting you are the second person who has posted the problem of no T&D service being shown in Services for 2009:9796.

The problem  certainly seems to be that the registering of the service goes awry. I don't know if physically trying to register the service via a cmd box would work or what might be interfering with the standard installation.

I don't think the other poster has had the problem solved either.

I am not sure that the service entry is the problem, as t&d works ok on my laptop (using Vista) with no service entry showing there either.

I might be behind the times then :).

Is there a T&D entry in task manager or in the startup tab in msconfig?

No, there's no t&d entry in either task manager or in msconfig, but the same applies to the laptop, where t&d works.  I'm hoping that there is a new build due soon.  Otherwise I may be forced to pay Acronis for help.  That would be a last resort, as I do not think I should be paying to sort a problem in software I have only had for a few weeks.
