Trying to make a new backup to an old backup.
HI Guys, I've created a backup file and now want to add only the new files created on my PC. Do I choose incremental or differential. Please don't ask me to read the help file below; I don't understand it. It's written in babble, not plain English.
My other issue is in choosing where to add the new backup files to, a folder or the previous backup file itself. I don't actually know. Thx for any help.
Differential
Select this method if you want to create backup chains containing only full and differential backup versions. (what does that even mean!!)
You can configure the scheme by using one of the following options:
Create only differential versions after the initial full version - select this item to create only one backup version chain. Automatic cleanup is not available for this option.
Create a full version after every [n] differential versions - select this item to create several backup version chains. This is a more reliable but more space-consuming backup scheme.
Incremental
Select this method if you want to create backup chains containing only full and incremental backup versions.
You can configure the scheme by using one of the following options:
Create only incremental versions after the initial full version - select this item to create only one backup version chain. Automatic cleanup is not available for this option.
Create a full version after every [n] incremental versions - select this item to create several backup version chains. This is a more reliable but more space-consuming backup scheme.

A task for Incremental or Differential will always begin with a full backup. That is necessary, as that becomes the baseline.
For an Incremental task, after the first full backup, subsequent backups will be incremental, each one based on changes since the previous Incremental backup, all the way back to the second backup being incremental based on changes since the full backup. As such, you need all links in the chain, all incremental backups right back to and including the first full backup, in order to Restore.
For a Differential task, after the first full backup, subsequent backups will be differential, each one based on changes since the first full backup. To restore, you would need just any Differential and the Full backup on which it is based.
You should not allow an incremental chain to become too long. An incremental restore depends upon every incremental in the chain being valid, including the original full. It's better to limit each chain to just a few incrementals, followed by a fresh full backup to start a new chain.
You should validate backups periodically. That would alert you much if the full backup were missing or unreadable.

I am assuming you are talking about adding backup when booted into Windows via Acronis TrueImage 2014.
If you already have been able to create a backup, you should have an existing backup task on your main menu screen. Click the "Backup now" option to add additional backups to any backups already created by this task. Below are additonal help links.
