Trying to recover from notebook image that has a dual boot config
I am using Acronis Tue Image 11 Home and before that version 10. I have a notebook with several partitions with the C: & D: partitions setup so in a dual boot config. The primary (C:) partition is Windows 7 and where I spend most of my time. The D partition in W2008ED that I use for school work which involves database, business intelligence and data integration software. That drive as an fyi is 120Gb.
I have diligently backing up the real disk (all partitions) and with my disk crash I thought I was safe with Acronis. But I have found out that although Acronis will create a backup image of my config it will NOT restore the image because it has a server OS on one of the partitions. HELP!!!
If it was not going to let me restore the image why did Acronis create a backup image and tell me it was successful (this is daily from both the 10 & 11 versions)? Now I am in bad straights.....
And looking at their software products the "Home" versions do not support server editions and the Server editions do not support Windows 7. So there does not appear to be any product for me.
I can understand having a server-based OS price, and additional features, for a real server but it does not seem reasonable for a 120Gb partition on a notebook.
And, of course, no way to talk or chat with a person to see if their is anything that can be done.
So I have a backup image that won't restore even though it was termed successful for every backup for quite a while.
Any suggestions other than start from scratch rebuilding the OS, reinstall all my software and then copy files back onto my notebook? fyi: I have Carbonite and do a nightly Xcopy as redundant backups (but didn't think I'd need them.)
And I guess I need to look for backup software that will support my environment since Acronis does not appear to have that product.
