Unable to backup drives on Windows 7 pro 64 bit using True Image 2010 with PlusPack
Hello,
I'm having a frustrating problem with this software: It has never worked for me, neither the original build, nor the infamous 6053 and not even the new 7046.
My setup:
Two 640GB Western Digital hard drives in RAID 0 mode
Gigabyte GA-X48-DS4 motherboard with F2 BIOS
Windows 7 Pro 64 bits with all the latest updates, drivers, etc. ...
8 GB Mushkin PC2-8500 DDR2 RAM 5-5-5-15
ATI Radeon 4800 video card with 1GB RAM
I'm trying to back up all my partitions (C, G, J and K -- see attached screen shot of the device manager) to a 1TB Western Digital drive in an external enclosure connected by USB2.
When I originally bought True Image 2010, I found out I needed the PlusPack for the software to recognize my RAID setup -- something about dynamic drives. Although PlusPack installs, it doesn't show up in "About Acronis" (see screen shot) despite what the Knowledge Base claims. And yes, I did install the 7046 build of the PlusPack. The START menu does show this folder: Plus Pack for Acronis True Image Home 2010, which contains the WinPE ISO builder.
When using the 6053 build, Windows crashed every time I tried to make a backup so I stopped using True Image until 7046 was released. I installed 7046 today and tried three times to back up my drives, only to see the process "Terminated by User" even though I did not stop it. According to the log (see attached file) True Image can't find a file, but it doesn't say which one. This is surprising since I'm not using the computer while the backup is running, so I'm not modifying or deleting any file True Image might be looking for.
I tried to run True Image from a bootable CD I created with the "Create Bootable Rescue Media" tool, but apparently the PlusPack files don't get included because True Image did not recognize my dynamic drives.
I am about ready to uninstall this software and move on to something else, unless someone has a solution. I certainly appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.
Didier B.

Colin, thank you for your feedback. VSS is indeed disabled. I have tried backing up only certain partitions as you suggested, without luck. The music drive you mention is actually music I compose, not tunes I've downloaded :-) so it's all hi-def audio. That drive is the main reason I need a backup. I ended up copying everything manually instead of using a third-party software. It's tedious, but at least I know it works.
Take care,
D.

Once you are able to not crash :) then you ought to include the system partition as well as it is from here that your W7 boots and I suggest temporarily leaving out your Music partition to see if this is the one causing a problem with TI and secondly it won't compress very much if your music files are already in a compressed format - much like JPG images.
Do you have any deep folder trees or very long folder and or file names?

Maybe too little too late, but by chance did you try a WinPE build ISO or the downloadable ISO from your account? You mentioned only a CD made by the Bootable Media Builder.
