Unable to read disk (but Windows XP can)

Thread needs solution

I am running TI V11 (latest build) and recently I keep getting a 'Can't read sector 63 of Disk 6' error. It's and external USB drive that I've always backed up to. The interesting part is that Windows Expolorer (XP Pro with latest updates) can read it and navigate just fine.

Any reason TI would consistently not be able to read the disk (are they using a different access method)? And, is there anything special about sector 63 that would hang up the program?

I am going to reformat the external drive and check for bad sectors but just curious why TI consistently can't read it but Windows can.

Thanks in advance!!!

TI will find errors on hard drive that Windows will happily ignore. Run Chkdsk /r on that external drive and see if TI still throws up the error.

Well ... I have had the same problem on and off for years. I have started a new thread on it if anyone is interested. Upgrading the the lastest build of Echo Server did not do the trick. Here is the link if anyone is interested.

Mike:
I suffered this once with an older IDE drive, I received the same "bad sector" error every time I tried to save an image to it. I decided that the error might have come from the drive but maybe just the first time. Every time after that I would get the same error in about 1 second, way too fast for TI to scan and find it. I think the error was saved in a TI file somewhere and TI looked at the file and saw the error, and reported it before bothering to scan again.

Eventually I was able to use this drive for TI backups without errors. I never found out why or how it was "fixed". This is why (I think) chkdsk doesn't find these so called bad sectors.
