Unable to read source drive

Thread needs solution

Howdy all,,

Trying to clone a 500Gb laptop HDD to a new 1TB. Installed new 1TB drive in the laptop, old 500Gb externally via USB as directed in the User Man and booted from ATIH Bootable Media in CD/DVD bay. Program loads fine.

When going to the Clone Drive under Tools menu program reports unable to read from sector 976,773,167 of Disk 1 (the 500Gb). Clone menu shows the 500Gb drive but is greyed out and not accessible. Retried several times, same result, or lack of depending on your point of view.

Returned the 500Gb drive to the internal bay of the laptop and it works fine, in-fact I am operating on it at this very moment.

Operating 500Gb drive is a Seagate Momentus #ST95000325AS. There are 4 partitions on the drive:
204MB NTFS SYSTEM
450Gb NTFS C:
2Gb FAT32 Tools
13Gb NTFS Recovery D:
plus 16Mb of unallocated space.

Any ideas what is causing this issue? Thanks in advance for any suggestions / remedies.

Usually, if unable to read, the message also includes an option to ignore.
I have seen this appear at the end and using cancel option has allowed the clone to finish.

You also check if the TI opitons provide you with an option to slow the transfer speed before you start.

Normally, My first stop would be to check each partition for disk errors and this error could be on one of the unlettered partitons for which you may need to assign a drive letter before checking.

Option to ignore was tried on two occasions ........... no difference. This occurred at the very beginning of the process, couldn't even access the target.

?? Assign a drive letter to the SYSTEM partition???

I can understand perhaps assigning the other partition, but didn't think you can assign the SYSTEM partition
