Update 2 installs but fails to run properly

Thread needs solution

I am running build 6154 under Windows with daily, incremental backups. The software announced Update 2 available, and I ran the install option. After the install Acronis started normally but after beginning a backup I got the windows "encountered a problem and has to quit" message. After restarting Acronis, it produced the same message after about 30 seconds every time it came up, no matter what I did, including nothing. Acronis gave no messages of its own.

I then used the rescue media to restore the disk. The rescue media had some difficulty finding the archive; it finally did after a refresh, and restored successfully. I again downloaded and installed update 2, carefully closing all other programs, etc. The same problem sequence occurred.
I rolled back to the previous backup again, again with some initial difficulties locating the archive, and await your wisdom.

Ernie,

Good for you that you have the backups and know how to recover. Too bad more users do not have that skill.

When booting from the CD, you can always expect to search for the backups. The cause is that the Linux based bootable media does not use the same drive letter assignment procedure so the CD is not looking in the Windows location for the backups. YOu will need either to refresh the list (can take a very long time) but I prefer simply to browse direct to where I know the backups to be. I have names assigned to my disk so browsing direct to the backup is must a minor inconvenience.

My suggestion would be to use the 2012 cleanup tool (check signature below) and have it cleanup your 6154 installation. Be sure and read the comments inside the KB cleanup tool.

After you have used the clean up tool, launch msconfig. Go to the services tab, uncheck hide microsoft services, select all items, then check hide microsoft services and uncheck all remaining items. Then go to the startup tab, and uncheck all items. Confirm and close msconfig. Reboot. You are now in what is called a clean boot environment. INstall the latest build and verify it is working normally. Then launch msconfig and select normal startup on the first tab. Close and reboot.

Grover and Pat - thanks for the suggestions. I'll try those things and let you know how it comes out.
