Update from TI2013?

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I was just checking whats new when i saw that there is a new TI2014 version. I have always used TI but lately i dont really see anything worth while for upgrade so was wondering if i missed anything beside the cloud shizzle that i dont use or have interest in. So basically i'm asking if there is any reason to update to the latest version if i already have 2013 version?
I'm running Win8 x64 but i'm guessing Acronic will update the TI2013 also for win8.1 hopefully so assuming that is the case (correct me if wrong) what other gains is there in TI2014?

ps. one thing i really badly miss is the feature to boot my images, that was a very useful thing that i got used to but sadly its not there now, think its removed by MS but still miss it badly.....has anyone found a way to get that back somehow using TI or other program? grateful for any tips.

No reply from anyone? i guess there might not be any good reasons after all :)

Thanks for the link but no it dont help, i seen it but it doesn't really put both 2013 vs 2014 side by side and compare which brings me back to my question. I see there is mobile/cloud stuff which i'm not interested in. I'm more interested to know if they added/improved anything for the regular backup/restore. Also like to know if 2013 version is going to support Win8.1. If not that would be really crap tbh.

The main change to the core is greater support for Windows 8 and GPT disks.

IMO the only reasons to upgrade any software are if the new version has features that you want, or you need a new version for compatibility.

If there aren't any new features in 2014 that are compelling to you, and your existing version works fine on all your hardware, then you might want to keep it.

If your current version does everything you need, and the bootable Rescue Media recognizes your hardware and can restore to your drive, then I see no need to upgrade.

Thanks for that, this is getting closer to what i was asking but still what does this mean exactly "greater support for Windows 8 and GPT disks". Is 2013 somehow less secure to use? i mean its working fine now but its not like i use it everyday to restore. I dont like to get a surprise one day when i actually need it. And as you know Windows update is updating almost weekly so my question still stands if 2013 is good enough for Windows 8 + 8.1 which i will get soon (included in win8 purchase it seems).
I wish there were a clear board with all the support details and bugs and what not for all versions for people to look and decide. I'm just a bit scared that one day when i need the restore the most it will bug out on me due to updates. Its not like TI2013 is getting frequent updates. Its been a long time i saw an update. That is also what i dont like about the 2011->2012->2013->2014 updates, its like this is done just to make you pay more without actually adding much value. Sorry for all the negative stuff but i do like to know why we pay every year for so little.

You don't need to pay every year, unless you want a new version.

If your current version does everything you need, and the bootable Rescue Media recognizes your hardware and can restore to your drive, then I see no need to upgrade.

A new computer could bring a new set of issues as the hardware could differ, etc.

When you get your new Win8,
first: make a Win8 recovery CD. This opiton usually exists but you may have to hunt for it.
2nd: Use The Windows provided backup and make a full backup of the new system before you add Acronis or any other programs.
3rd: Boot or attempt to boot from TI 2013 Recovery CD and make a disk mode backup of your system.

All the above should be done before you add any programs to your computer.
This is advice I would offer regardless of which vendor supplies your backup program.

Creating the initial backups gives you some protection and recovery possibilities should you have any installation issues with any of your programs.

I do appreciate the replies but they do feel like standard replies really, please try to read into my comments and understand it.

When i bought 2013 it it did say support for windows8 but seeing there is no update what so ever since 2013-04-04 i have to wonder if Acronis has moved on. As i said Windows evolving still and without proper support and update from Acronis i'm afraid 2013 will be obsolete at one point during windows 8 lifespan. This is why i dont like the way Acronis does business, once they announce a new version/year suddenly they drop the boll for other versions even if they do sell it under the windows8 banner. Would be good to hear from a representative if they still will continue support if windows does break the functionality somehow during win8.1 update or other patch updates.
@Tutte: can you please check this point and let me know the answer ? Thanks

Also i see a long list of fixes in 2014 and i ask myself are these bugs also in 2013? there is no update for 2013 since 2013-04-04 so i'm guessing they are not fixed but i'm not sure. Again how come 2013 dont get any fixes any more?
@Tutte: appreciate if you could also find out if there will be any more update for 2013? or is the policy that when new version comes out older versions will not be updated?
The official release date for True Image 2013 by Acronis is 2012-08-27 and the last update was 2013-04-04 so this is even less than 1 year update.
