Is the upgrade from 2011 to 2013 worth the cost?

Thread needs solution

I currently am [for the most part happily] running Acronis True Image Home 2011 with Plus Pack.

It looks like I have to pay $29.99 for the upgrade. Does this include the plus pack? Is it worth the upgrade?

I did some research, and aside from Windows 8 support, is there anything new or better to make the upgrade worth it? (I have several backups, both image and file-based.) What exactly is new and/or better? (Again, the site only mentions functionality I already have.)

Furthermore, some sites (notably CNET) are advising users *not* to make this upgrade, as certain people are having problems, including losing their data!

Thanks much in advance for your help!

As someone who purchased ATIH 2012 and the plus pack and as someone who had no end of problems with the 2012 version (It even trashed my MBR and wouldn't allow me to even start windows) and went back to using the 2011 version, I would just say; "wait awhile" before you make any purchases for the 2013 version. Infact I would go further and say; "do not upgrade until you know it's working properly". Acronis should hang their heads in shame at the buggy mess they released when they first released 2012, which may or may not yet be fixed properly as I never had the confidence to re-install 2012 or the plus pack? They lost a long time customer for any future upgrade and I don't see that changing any time soon.

I also have ATI 2011 and the Plus Pack.

I also had very bad experiences with crashed systems and irreparable disks using ATI 2012 when I tried installing it. I reverted back to 2011.

Now I'm having a similar deja vu moment with ATI 2013.

I have once again reverted back to ATI 2011, but I will try another install again when I get braver and have some free time - and I'll watch these forums for other people's reactions.

Having received the upgrade email this morning from Acronis this prompted me to visit the forum again and have a look at what's happened to ATIH 2012 since I last visited. There have been a couple of programme upgrades since I last looked, the last one just recently on 12th July 2012, and looking at the list of things it's supposed to fix I can only say; oh dear, they were still having big problems with 2012 10 months after release as far as I can see and I'm pleased I stuck with 2011 which incidently doesn't work perfectly by any means. I have come to the conclusion ATIH 2012 or ATI 2013 are one's to avoid. Even though I paid good money for AITH 2012 and they have patched it I still have no confidence in using it as I'm fearful I will spend another 3 or 4 days trying to get support and having finally to re-install my PC after the damaged caused to it last time. And, this was after it had been fully backed up etc, etc. As for deja vu moments, you must be tearing your hair out at the same thing happening again?

It was almost exactly 1 year ago to the day that I had troubles with ATI 2012. That yearly development clock must be a killer.

I think ATI 2013 is in much better shape, the drivers seem to be re-written from scratch - or name-changed anyway.

Probably with a few tweaks the 2013 product will be pretty good.

I think I'll have another look when those tweaks have been implimented because there's still a lot of posts from users having issues with 2013. Similar problems that were present in the 2012 version so that doesn't exactly fill me with much confidence.
