Upgrade via cloning from rebuild media from 120GB SSD -> 256GB SSD wont start says disc clone failure
Hello everybody,
Im experiencing annoyjing problem trying to clone over my 120GB current C-drive (Windows drive) to my newly purchased and installed 256GB SSD drive on my computer.
During the attempts to clone this I have discovered that apparently my computer rigs motherboard BIOS harddrive configurations are set to IDE and not AHCI which is recommended for the newly purchased ADATA SSD drive (my currently used 120GB SSD drive is of brand Corsair Force3 series (I believe)) if this would make any difference? From what I can tell from support personell that tried to help me all over internet they claim it should still work- but might be slower - I don't mind that since its the storage capacity upgrade Im after.
Anyhow, I tried both doing the cloning process from Windows as well as the rebuild media DVD, none worked, the only difference was that the rebuild media disc gave me a very vague error message saying the process failed, whilst windows cloning did not.
I have not yet formatted the disc so its completely un-allocated, although I did select Master Boot Record for the newly installed 256GB SSD however.
I have googled a lot on this subject of matter, as well as being in various informative discussions with IT-technician personell but it all boiled down to no better progress. Then I discovered this forumpost claiming same issue Im experiencing and he solved it via Technical support from you guys (Acronis) and I felt relieved that maybe I could get this too... Since the instructions he gave in the forumpost response was a little bit vague: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/50665#comment-156920
Shame on me apparently, because I tried calling you 3 times, both in the US as well as Sweden where Im currently residing, and I did not get response from swedish offices, and was turned away from the US because of reason unknown.
So I was simply hoping I could get some insight to as what causes this failure notice for me, as well as maybe receive technical support from you guys here in this forum. Would be greatly appreciated since Ive been at this now for a couple of days and time is running out for me. Also it would of course be nice to be able to use the new disc Ive purchased and recently installed into my system so its not a total waste of cash.
In the forumpost where this guy claims that your technical support helped him to fix it, it seems that it worked when he used USB adapter instead of installing the disc into system, how come that is, and is this something I should try? Please help me solve this, I really do need and want to upgrade the C-drive SSD disk :)
Best of Regards,

Hey, thanks for the response, although not sure what you're refering to with this ATI2105? but "Entire PC Backup" will be a little bit complicated seing as this is a stationary computer with installed 4-5 drives (incl. the SSD one) amassing approximately alltogether an occupied storage capacity of 867GB worth of data.
So to be a little bit more specific, do you mean I should do an image backup of ONLY the C-drive (my current SSD) and then try to replace my current one with new SSD (bigger one) and then via the rebuild media "restore" the C-drive via the image backup made onto an external drive for example?
Thanks for taking time helping me resolve this.
On another note though, do you think it would make a difference whether I try and clone via installed directly into system SATA port, or whether I do it when it uses an SATA-USB adapter?
Thanks in advance :)

No. Do not choose only C:. Create a full disk mode backup, where you select the checkbox for the entire disk.
