Upgrading boot drive

Hi. I did search before asking, and found a few things related to my question, but I think my question is really simply (for you pros).

I want to upgrade my boot drive (a 60g SSD to a 120g or larger SSD) on my home computer, and would like to avoid reinstalling all my applications (wow, 60g isn't as much space as it sounded like 9 months ago!). It looks like Acronis offers a couple of different products that would handle this. Can someone tell me the most effective way to accomplish this? I don't really need backup software, as I have a regular scheduled backup. Unfortunately, that software is file based, and won't restore a Windows 7 64-bit drive in its entirety. So, I'm really looking for a one-time utility.

I appreciate any help you can provide.

With Acronis software, TI Home is what most people would use. Just clone the drive or create a backup image and then restore it to the new drive. I usually use the backup & restore method because I prefer having a backup image of the original drive (cloning doesn't give you a backup).

Some drives come with migration software. If your new drive does, that would be a free option.

If you start imaging you may find you really like it. It has many advantages over file-based backups. You could check out Grover's guides and links. There's a lot of useful information there. There are other helpful links in the Useful Links section on the left side of the forum pages.
