USB Drive Clone on Dell Lattitude C610

Thread needs solution

I have a Dell Latitude C610 laptop with built-in 20gb HD, now out of space (1.5gb left). Laptop is running XP serv pak 3.

I purchased a WD160gb usb drive which the system finds and works fine under XP (it has files on it).

Problem occurs when I try to clone the drive. After I go thru all the steps and do the required reboot, Acronis tells me it can't find the drive after the C partition is verified and that an error has occured.

I tried this same procedure on a different laptop running Windoze ME and it worked fine.

Any suggestions?

TIA,
Walt

I'll answer my OWN question, since I'm apparently the ONLY one to have this issue.

Do the clone on a desktop machine with the new drive and original laptop drive each in their
own usb enclosure. That way, the system running the software can operate efficiently
without resorting to all the rebooting.

Clone of a 20gb drive to a 160gb drive took approx 1hr. Running system only had 256mb RAM
also.

Since all I needed was the clone function, I used Migrate EZ 7.0.
