USB Recovery drive not booting up

Thread needs solution

Hi
Just installed this program. I've made a USB recovery pen drive. at boot up I press F11 but it just boots into windows 8. I've been into the BIOS and selected to boot from the USB pen and saved my choice but it still boots into windows and after still using F11 as it starts up.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Are you able to boot into any other bootable utilities from a USB flash drive? (i.e. non-Acronis tools)

Philip,

Does your PC use a BIOS or UEFI?
I take it F11 on your PC is the way to temporarily change boot order, see what happens if you actualy enter the BIOS and change both the order and the priority (you might not have a priority option, that depends on the mothebroard manufacturer).

I have a Samsung Ativ 700T Tablet running Windows 8. It has a bios. ive tried the different settings. If does not have a change priority setting. #it lets me select the pen drive reboots but gets stuck on preparing to repair pc. F11 is not a setting for my tablet its the setting for the Acronis recovery to launch prior to windows 8. If I activate the F11 button on all start-ups with out using the usb drive every time I boot up the tablet I have to wait 30 seconds before windows boots. that's far far to long to wait.

Yes, I understand 30 seconds is a whole half minute of frustration and important work that is left undone.

If the 30 seconds is the Windows boot, that can be altered in the Windows 8 BCD. I'm not familiar with your tablet, but with a keyboard try the following.

1. Either click on the Windows traditional desktop icon or press Win + x .

2. With a keyboard hit the Win + Pause Break , from the Win + x button select System Properties

3. Click on, or, select Advanced.

4. Change the boot time option to another figure.

One other thing to try, would be to reformat your USB flash stick using one of the utilities that make it appear as a hard drive (HP have one and RMPREPusb are another place that has one) instead of a removable drive.

I would also advise disabling the Acronis Startup Manager if that is what you have enabled, you are much better from a Windows 8 point of view having the BIOS detect the USB stick and boot from that if it is inserted or straight to Win 8 if it is not inserted.
