Use of mobile racks in cloning & backup & restore operations

I use two mobile racks in my system. One holds the main drive. The other remains empty until I need to perform a scheduled clone backup, or do a restore. From my research, these units are pass through electrical/mechanical connections with no active logic circuits involved. Has anyone had experience in using these devices and encountered anybbackup or system reliability issues with their use?
