Use post command for another backup

Thread needs solution

Can the post command of custom commands be used to start another backup job that is already defined?
If so, what would the syntax be?

You should be able to use a command (.cmd) or a batch (.bat) file in a post command. The content would be the same as the contents of a desktop shortcut. Click on my signature index below and check on item 7J for more detailed help.

GroverH,
I went to the place you recommended and still don't know what to do.

"Windows 7 x86:
------------------
ATIH 2010, ATIH 2009, ATIH 11.0:
Program: "C:\Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImage.exe"
Service: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageHomeService.exe"
Scripts: "C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts"
"
I have located the file, with all the numbers and letters, in the scripts folder mentioned above but I don't know the correct syntax to create a batch file.

I am not sure what Program, Services and Scripts mentioned above mean or how to use them.

Not sure you were at the right place (7-J). Here is the same link again.

The below is what it should look like except you will have to substitute your Win7 path for my XP path and your script id for my script id. Look again at the reference and it really explains it quite thoroughly. I assume you are using version 2010.

For example, this is the path used to create an XP Pro desktop shortcut for version 2009:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageHomeService.exe" /script:"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts\ 7979927F-8CB0-4380-ACE5-53DE74528036.tib.tis" This command line of information can be pasted from Notepad directly into a desktop shortcut; or Windows scheduled task; or batch file; or cmd file. (Substitute your path and your unique script id in place of this script id).

Win7 may look like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageHomeService.exe" /script:"C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts\7979927F-8CB0-4380-ACE5-53DE74528036.tib.tis" This command line of information can be pasted from Notepad directly into a desktop shortcut; or Windows scheduled task; or batch file; or cmd file. Change the red to match your script id. What you see in color is what should be the contents of the cmd or bat file. I suggest you the cmd file. The notepad save would then be Saved such as mypostfile.cmd and the mypost.cmd is what is placed in the post content.

Get your "mypostfile.cmd" working as a standalone function so that it creates your backups before trying to get it to work as a post process.

The below was extracted from another link(7-I) and contains the pertinent data I believe for your paths.

GroverH,

Thanks for your patience.
The attached shows the scripts folder as well as the two batch files I developed from your info.
Have tried to run the batch files by double clicking on them but the backups do not start.
Have tried to troubleshoot them without results.
Any suggestions?

Since I do not have Win7, it is difficult for me to troubleshoot. Perhaps I can get someone else to look at this.

A couple things.
1. I believe there is an error in the first script number in notepad. Last digit should be a B rather than an 8. AFB07B.TIB.TIS

2. Perform a file search TrueImageHomeService.exe to confirm which path is correct for you.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageHomeService.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageHomeService.exe"

3. Change the file extension from .bat to .cmd
4. Rerun each cmd file and see if the changes gets any better results.

If the above is not a fix, you might also look at this thread in its entirety. Both about the special needs of win7 and a possible change to notify rather than service in the program name.

I looked at that thread. From first glance it seems to be what I needed. Here is my reply to that thread.

Coming in here about 4 months after last post.
This is what I placed in the-target box of "shortcut properties".

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageHomeNotify.exe" /script:"69A0D1A1-0D60-4FBA-B240-3AD17A0FB92A"/uuid:"69A0D1A1-0D60-4FBA-B240-3AD17A0FB92A"

It saved Ok and when I double clicked the shortcut I got the UAC and then nothing. How can I tell if the task is running?

Anybody see what is wrong?

You do not mention any changes necessary as a result of post #5? Would you mind confirming that the path was confirmed.

You may want to return to your other recent post and perform an edit and add the type of os you are using, etc. 32 bit --64, win?

The only change is I used the method described for One-Click shortcut. I confirmed the path and it is correct. My OS is W7 Ultimate 32bit.

I posted his in another thread too.

I think I have found a way to put an image backup on the W7 scheduler. I uninstalled AHTI 2010 and reinstalled. Upon re-installation I was given the opportunity to One-Click an image backup. This step created a "shortcut" on the desktop. Apparently creating the "shortcut" is a one time event that occurs on installation. Maybe I'm wrong on that, but that is my impression.
Anyway I went to properties of that shortcut and copied the TARGET info to the notebook. I then saved the note book as a batch file, .bat. I then created a task in the W7 scheduler and used the batch file as the action.
I then went back to AHTI 2010 and edited the task the way I wanted it, particularly the schedule I set to NONE, the W7 scheduler will handle everything. Especially nice is it will "wake" the computer in the middle of the night to accomplish the backup. Will test this setup tomorrow AM early . Have already run the scheduler manually.
So that takes care of making an image automatically using the W7 scheduler.

That's good news. Compare the contents of the working file with the non-working file and find the differences.

Suggest you look at item 7-L inside my signature index below.

If you want incremental backups in your task, be sure and open TI and run the task at least once from inside the program by choosing the start option; otherwise, any task run from the desktop or scheduler will be full backups. Running the task once from inside TI causes the task option to automatically change from a "create new" to a "add to existing" backup.

My plan for backups is as follows;

300 gb internal 2nd HD.
Create an image twice a week. Keeping the latest 8 images. I have a batch file that I use as a PRE command that deletes the oldest files.
Create daily backups of only my data. Again, I use a PRE command and keep the latest two backups.

Now I am able to always have a way to completely restore an image if I ever need to. I have done this several times. When System Restore is not enough I don't hesitate to restore an image and then restore my latest data.

Having a backup plan that you have proven works is always a good practice. Congratulations.

You probably already have this covered but if you should need to move your system to a new or larger disk, the type backup that offers you the easiest recovery is a backup that includes all partitions as shown in the Windows Disk Management Graphical View.

Spreading the risk onto different extra backup storage drives is an added safety factor.

Good luck in your use of TrueImage Home.
