Using Acronis True Image HD to clone to an SSD

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I'm having trouble with using Acronis True Image to install a (new and unused) Kingston HyperX 3k SSD in my existing system (ASRock MB, AMD A8 CPU, Windows 8). The SSD came in a kit and included the Acronis True Image HD software as part of the kit for cloning the OS from the old HDD. Having installed the SSD into a SATA port and then formatting it in Windows, I booted with the Acronis imaging software disc (that came in the kit). However, after selecting the language I get up an error message reading “Acronis True Image has not found any hard drives.”

The instructions that came with the kit suggest it should be as easy as just booting with the Acronis disk and following the on screen instructions. The only trouble shooting suggestion it gives is for if you don’t have all of the SATA ports enabled on the MB, but that is not the case here (and the SSD is visible in Windows, so it must be enabled). I’m not sure what version of True Image it is (it doesn’t say 11 or 12 or whatever, just that it is Acronis True Image HD. If it helps the disc it came on from Kingston is copyrighted 2011 so I guess it is not very up to date.

Any suggestions on what the problem is? Is the Acronis software not compatible with Windows 8? I thought it should be quite a straightforward process and it's not! Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks,
Max
