using boot disc with a netbook and external monitor ??
Hi,
I am about to clone a new hard drive for my samsung nc10 netbook. I am considering 2 options, i.e. cloning or doing a full backup and then restore onto the new disc after swapping it in the netbook.
I would appreciate any help and advice specific to this, but my main reason for posting is because I would like to know if anyone knows how to make my external monitor work from the bios because I cannot see the bios, or when using the Acronis boot disc, I cannot see that either, except from the netbook monitor. I would much prefer the external monitor as it is easier for me to see, plus the netbook is situated on a shelf with the monitor of it closed. Does anyone know how to use my external monitor in this way ?
Thanks in advance.

regarding the external monitor: for notebooks you can usually activate the external monitors by pressing some special function keys.
according to http://www.samsungnc10.co.uk/how-to-use-your-nc10-with-an-external-moni… this is for samsung nc10: To switch between different modes you just hit the ‘Function’ (Fn) key and F4 at the same time.
as far as i remember you'll have to change the display mode pretty early at boot time (at POST stage) - before the acronis loader kicks in. but you said your notebook lid is usually closed? so you're also using an external keyboard? those external keyboards don't usually have such notebook specific FN keys ..
here's what i usually do with my samsung X20 that's plugged into a docking station with external screen via DVI:
- insert the CD
- open the lid
- power on the notebook
- press the FN key to activate external monitor
- close the lid
- operate acronis product from bootable media
note: my ATI 2011 does not support that external screen when using the bootable rescue media. but i also have some older version of ATI that works just fine.
