using TI Echo Workstation to create bootable USB from iso's

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have three or four custom linux distributions that install different types of servers. Currently, I have to burn iso's to disk to install or upgrade.

I would like to know if there is a way that I can convert my custom iso's to run from usb and use Acronis TI to create the bootable media, and then run the appropriate installer. All my iso's install a custom Linux 2.6.x kernel.

Current way: Install manually from CDs

Cd 1 - Snort installer

Cd 2 - firewall installer

Cd 3 - syslog server

New Way:

boot from usb and have a menu that will let me install each of the above:

1 - Install Snort
2 - Install Firewall
3 - Install syslog server

I am not sure if this is the right forum, but after searching and not quite finding the answer, i thought i would ask.

If I can get this done, I won't have to carry blank cds or a dvd burner with me any more.

Thanks,
Shawn

Shawn,

If you need to boot the ISO files (like you would a CD), you could try using a flashdrive setup with Grub4DOS to boot the ISO files.

Otherwise, doesn't Linux allow mounting of ISO files directly?

Yes, Linux does, but if I have a bare metal server and I am at a remote site, booting from USB is a much more elegant solution, especially if I can get all of my iso images on a single multi gigabit USB stick.

I'll check Grub4Dos.
