using a win 7 32 bit disk image to mount on new win 7 64 bit system?

Thread needs solution

Hey everyone, first post, I have been using Acronis home 2010 on my windows 7 32 bit operating system. Now I find that I need to upgrade to windows 7 64 bit system. I have already made a disk image of my C drive and I'm hoping that once I convert to the 64 bit system I can then use the disk image of my 32 bit C drive to reinstall my files on to the 64 bit drive. I have used this technique when replacing a crashed hard drive.....just install the new hard drive and then mount the disk image for my old C drive and were up and running just like nothing ever happened. I know that when I convert from 32 bit to 64 bit my drivers won't work, but do you think I'll be able to get my files to work? Instead of restoring the whole disk like I usually do will I have to instead select to restore files and folders? If I mounted the whole disk image it would (I think) just convert the whole thing back to 32 bit. Any insight or suggestions as to the best way to do this would sure be appreciated. Thanks, Brian

You can of course mount the disk image to transfer your user data files to the new system.

You cannot restore the disk image to the new drive, as then you'd wipe out your new 64-bit OS and replace it with the old 32-bit OS. You will need to reinstall your applications on the new OS.
