Validation Canceled

Thread needs solution

Acronis True Image Home 2012.
I get a "Validation has been canceled by user" message. I don't know how I did that and what do I need to do to fix this? Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated.

Greetings,

Validation is straight forward.  Please see the following reference.

Validation occurs two ways.  Automatically if this option left enabled (default) during task creation, or manually by right-clicking on an archive and selecting Validate... If you receive a message stating Validation was cancelled by the user...  either the system was shut down prior to completion (which is unlikely) as you would receive an "Operations Are In Progress" or you cancelled the operation manually.  This can be done from within the program interface, from the system tray, context menu, etc.  We recommend disabling automatic validation.  You should validate regularly, but do it manually on demand so it occurs when you want it to.

Thanks much for the assist. It's much appreciated.
I worked my way through the various menus and clickable links down to "Schedule your operation" and clicked on "Do not schedule." OK so far. So, how do I initiate a Validation manually?

Greetings,
There are several ways.

Open the Program interface, click the Back Up & Recovery tab... press the "gear" icon to the right of a back up and select validate.

You can also right-click on a archive (the file itself) in back up explorer and select validate.

All back ups can be validated at once from the operations toolbar "twin gear" icon... near the top of the Program interface (left of search box).

Search for Validate in the user guide... all methods are outlined there.

I apologize for asking more questions, but
1) Pressing the Gear icon with the Back Up & Recovery tab enabled shows this menu: View log, Integrate True Image into Windows, Customer Experience Program, Timeout Settings. I see no choice called Validation for either a single file or all files.

2) I was able to initiate a validation by right-clicking a backed-up file (my Backup Scheme creates a full version after four differential versions, then repeats the cycle), but then I got this message after validation had started: Specify location of the volume 3. I created a file and specified a location (My Backups), but I did not see a way to initiate it. Because I really didn't know what I was doing or what volume 3 meant, I terminated the validation.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Edited: I found the other Gear, the one with the validate option. But I still have the question about the specify location of the volume 3.

No problem.

1. Yes, I mis-typed. It's the "twin gear" icon to the left of the search box - Top right of interface. You found it great :0)

2. When you see this dialog, True Image cannot find one of the images either a full, differential or incremental in a chain. For example if you perform a full then have several incrementals... and try to validate the last incremental, the validation needs the full the incremental made previously since restore cannot occur from the incremental alone. Similar to a parent/child relationship in general terms.

This dialog is often the result of images being moved, or deleted from a location where Acronis expects them to be.

The original error message "Validation has been canceled by user" was due to validation being turned on in the backup task, and one or more of the files in the backup chain was missing. True Image will prompt the user with an on-screen prompt to locate the missing file during the validation process, but will time out after prompting (if the user does not respond - typical if the task was running on a schedule) and close/end the backup/validation task with the previously mentioned error.

In order to correct this issue, you will need to stop using the existing backup task, create a new backup task, pointing to a new empty folder on your backup destination. See here for help in setting up a task: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/28705

After successfully creating and running your new task, you can then delete the old task and any backup (.tib) files related to it if you wish.

Be sure in the future to only delete .tib files from within the True Image program. (Right Click on the task's Gear Icon or the task itself and select Explore and Recover.)

I want to thank both of you for your help. I now understand the meaning of the "Warning" message and why the validation could not proceed. Turns out that two of four incremental files in the current chain are missing. According to the Log, they were in fact created on the dates scheduled. I don't know what happened to them - I far as I can remember I did not knowingly delete them. I am going to keep a close eye on future backups. I really hadn't paid much attention to the backup process.

Thanks again for your help. We'd all be lost if it weren't for the volunteers who man the various technical forums on the Internet.
