Verification of Backup to Source
I am using True Image 2010, build 6053. I am wondering is there a way to perform a validation of the backup to the source to ensure it was correct? I am not using compression so I could do this manually by visually spot checking but that seems too unreliable.

Hello Ronald and oracledba,
I agree with oracledba's answer, 100% correct.
The validation process just compares the checksums.
Also, there's one common recommendation regarding the process - please set automatic validation for your image, it will check the archive right after its creation. Here are the instructions for Acronis True Image Home 2010:
- Start the product
- Follow to Tools & Utilities -> Options -> Local Storage Settings -> Archive Validation
-Set the option Validate backup archive when it's created
Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.
Thank you.

I have a similar question. In previous versions and I think in TI Home 2009 there was a choice on the "Tools and Utilities" menu choice to check a Backup Archive. This seems to be missing from the current version TI Home 2010.
Here is my problem. I did a backup on a laptop to DVD but I had a number of errors while attempting to write to the dvd’s, so I wrote the image in 4G size files on a external hard drive. I had verify on and the image was verified as correct. I would like to move these images to dvd’s using a system I trust (for writting to the dvd's) but there does not seem to be any way I can test the archive after I move it to DVD.
What would you suggest?????????

One possibility would be to use a DVD writer which can perform a check of the DVD after written to make sure it matches the source file. I believe one free program ImgBurn will do that.

You can burn the DVDs and then copy the files from the DVDs to a folder on a hard drive (internal or external) and validate that. If it's okay, the files were burned successfully. In addition, I think you should be able to validate the DVDs using TI even if TI didn't burn them.

I think something has been lost in the translation------ In Build 7046 TI Home 2010 the only way , that I have found to do a validation of an image file is at the time it is produced. In earlier versions at least TI Home 2009 on the Utilities and tools menu both in the Windows product and in the bootable CD their was a way to run a validation. What you have suggested my work in previous version but in the current version I don’t see how you can validate and archive except at the time of it’s creation.

It's still basically the same in TI 2010. Select the Recovery tab and then select the backup in the Disk backups tab. If the backup doesn't show in the list, you can browse for it. Once selected, you can click the Validate button on the toolbar or right-click on the backup and use the pop-up menu.
You can also use Explorer to browse to the image file and then right-click it and select Archive >> Validate.
