Verify breaks due to DHCP conflict

Thread needs solution

I do my backups at night to a NAS box. For quite some time (many months), I have been having very intermittent episodes where the verify process would fail with an TIH error message indicating the system could not make contact with the backup media (can't recall exact message). I would have to then cancel the Verify.

I finally was able to trace this down to occurring at the same time as a logged Windows Event indicating an IP address conflict referencing my computer at the time the DHCP server in the router was renewing leases.

I changed the Renewal time and the problem has been mitigated for now, but that's obviously only a band-aid.

Suggestions for a more permanent solution would be appreciated. One that comes to mind is to assign a static IP address to the computer running TIH.

Are there any other, better, solutions. e.g: some way of enabling TIH to recover from this kind of issue

Your idea of static IP is the best solution. Any other workaround would be prone to failure of some sort. Do you have a problem with assigning a static IP to this machine and if so why?

No problem. Just another thing to have to worry about when changing computers/systems/etc. And I was rather hoping that TIH could work around a non-default setting in a networked Windows system.
