Vista SP2 "The installation was interrupted before Acronis True Image Home could be installed."
On installation of ATI 2009 on my Vista SP2 machine, I get "The installation was interrupted before Acronis True Image Home could be installed. You need to restart the installer again."
I have deleted the Maxtor Maxblast 5 (Acronis) program, deleted ..\AppData\Local\Temp file and my user log, the temp file under Windows folder, retried the new installation several times using the long password (64) received by email, downloaded the program twice, cleaned out the Temp files, rebooted several times, but still can't install - it keeps rolling back.
I tried disabling all that I could via Task Manager including switching off the Windows Firewall before installation but still without joy. I did see the Acronis True Image Home icon installed on the desk top before the uninstall roll back commences. That goes, as does the files seen installing in C:\Program Files\Acronis\Acronis\TrueImageHome\
I might mention that I tried the trial 2009 and the 2010 on my XP laptop with proper results, but I want it on my main machine using Vista 32 (Home Premium edition)

Thanks Dwn.
I disabled the firewall and haven't any antivirus present at the moment, but appreciate your input

After uninstalling Maxtor's MaxBlast 5 before another attempt to install ATI 2009, I find I can't re-install that program - it has the same type of roll-back. I have had to use the MaxBlast restore CD or even the ATI restore CD (which is much quicker) to get MaxBlast operational again.
It's now 12 days since I paid good money for ATI 2009 upgrade from MaxBlast 5 with no result on on my Vista machine, and still can't get a good Acronis answer.

Hello Kevin,
Thank you for using Acronis Products
If the issue persists please attach MSI log file to diagnose the issue.
1.Launch the product installation file
2.Once the Acronis product installation screen appears, right-click on the name of the component that fails to install. You should see two options there: Install and Extract. Select Extract
3.Select the path for extracting the component and click Save
4.Go to the Run prompt (Start -> Run) and issue the following command: msiexec /i path&msi-name /l*v log-name.log, where path&msi-name is the name and path of the file you extracted in steps 2-3 and log-name.log is the path and the name to the log file you want to save the output to. For example, msiexec /i D:\AcronisFolder\AcronisTrueImage /l*v D:\log-name.log
5.Reproduce the problem and send us the log file created during the installation (it will be created on D partition).

Hello Kevin,
Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.
I have analyzed the log and found following:

It means that installation fails on SnapAPI driver. Could you please do the following to fix the issue?
-Remove all versions of Acronis True Image Home from your PC (if any)
-Remove SnapAPI drivers according to this article
-Install the product again
Please let us know the results!
We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.
Thank you.

Try using RevoUninstaller, seems to work a treat for most.

Thanks bin
I didn't think I would have the patience to try again, but I did.
Sad tale, but true. I downloaded RevoUninstaller and used it after a Maxtor MaxBlast image save.
I tried installing again with the same roll-back fault. Yet again I couldn't reinstall MaxBlast. Yet again I restored the drive with a CD boot.
I requested a refund as per http://www.acronis.com.au/homecomputing/sales/retail/refund/ last night and today I received a read receipt response from Singapore.
Win some, lose some I guess. That's life.

And Alexander,
It appears my response to you has gone astray. Maybe I didn't hit 'Save'
I tried your SnapAPI driver deletion successfully last night but this too didn't fix the problem.
But thanks for your input.
As I put in my refund request email
Faithfully, but disappointed.

Looks like I am having the same problem as Kevin did... ATI will not complete the installation, I cannot even uninstall it using ATI, Vista or the AcronisCleanUp utility. I have tried everything in this post, and a few other posts....
Little help?

A thought occurred to me, Pete. Have you a TV tuner fitted? I have, and the associated software, but to remove the software would be a pain - especially MediaPortal software which is the only digital software I have - all the other is analogue. I'm not sure whether this would have any effect on the Acronis software.

Wow! Complete misread by the Acronis helpers here. Your problem is User account control in Vista. Merely turn it off, restart your computer, install the software. UAC is the most common culprit for installation issues, especially after sp2. Always try that first before going through the hassle of "cleaning".

Thanks Craig
However the UAC has been off since I started using Vista. It's a pain.
Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

I have two True Image products, v.10 and Home 2009. V.10 will not recover anything for me.
Home 2009 did, once. Somehow both were uninstalled.
At the moment, neither of these will now load. I keep getting "Installation interrupted." On both of them.
There is nothing on the MS Uninstall list to uninstall. I prefer not to go into the registry if possible to clean more deeply.
Is there a problem where Acronis thinks someone else is trying to load an additional copy of each of my two versions? It's only me.
All I want is Acronis True Image Home 2009. Shouldn't be that difficult.

What build of TI 2009 are you trying to install? Some of them were much worse than others in regards to that problem.

Hello Mudcrab,
This was a download which doesn't load now so I can't find a build number. I can share that the download product date was 7-28-09 and the file size is 95,509,680. This should differentiate it to some degree.
I also followed some earlier instructions and created an .msi file but I doubt if you can make much out of it. It's here if you want it.

Incidentally Mudcrab, I run with XP, SP3 if that helps.

Let me back up a minute, Mudcrab. (It's late here!).
The size and date provided earlier are for the Home 2009 product.
I have the box and original deisc for v. 10 but there is no suggestion of a build number on either the box or the disk.
Everything on the v.10 disk is dated 10/23/06

The TI 2009 download should be the latest build (9,796).
The TI 10 version is most likely not the latest build (4,942) since it was released 03-12-2007.
If I remember correctly, most of the posted install problems were with Vista, not XP. However, it's possible that SP3 introduced some of the same changes.
While you may prefer not to do manual uninstalls, that's certainly an option. You may find something was left behind that's causing problems.
Another option is to run the Acronis Clean Up Utility and then try to reinstall the version of TI you want installed.

Mudcrab-
My thanks to you. The Acronis clean-up utility apparently worked. Although I didn't get back into the Registry to see if it had been thoroughly cleaned, I did close my a-virus program ()Kaspersky) and turned off the WIN Firewall before attempting a re-install of Home 2009.
The Installation went with no problem. I saved the Acronis utility in case it's necessary in the future.
Thanks again. This problem came on the heals of two wasted days fighting with some Roxio products to bring them back to life. No success there therefore the reload of a previous C-drive save which then brought to life the Acronis situation. Not a vicious cycle but something to make you grind your teeth. Lots of non-productive time.
Have a good day.
John
