Will not stop running.

I can not stop the backup from running. It runs 24/7. I try to stop it and I get the message asking if I really want to stop the backup. I click yes, but it will not stop. It says it's baking up drive K:\. I removed that hard drive and it still says it's backing it up. How can I stop it?
