Window Update doesn't work after disk recovery
The title is the problem. Background: I was getting BSODs alot and determined my RAID0 was failing (read errors I think). I was able to get ATIH to make a disk/partition backup. I changed the drives and recovered the back up. When done, it rebooted to the Windows Login. Great! It seemed that I got everything back. However, when I tried to run Windows Update it fails saying that the service isn't running. But it is. I restarted the computer and tried manually stopping and starting the service. The service says "Started". But Windows Update still claims it isn't and won't run.
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium. I tried to "reinstall" but it won't allow me to, saying my Windows is a newer version than what is on the media. That's not an option apparently.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix the Windows Update function in Windows?
Any help, tips or clues would be greatly appreciated!

You may want to try the solution on Microsoft's website. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058. Let us know what you find out.

You could try repeating the restore using the TrueImage bootable CD.
When you get to the screen where you select the target disk, ALSO SELECT the "Recover disk signature" located in lower left corner of the last or screen just prior to clicking the proceed button.

Check this out. Issues with cloning advanced format drives can be fixed by downloading and installing the latest Interl Rapid Storage Technology Drivers.

Hi, I'm having the same problem with win 7 64bit restoring from the bootcd on to NON advanced format drives ie old maxtor/samsung.
After recovery all programs works as usual except when I run Windows Update it also fails saying that the service isn't running.
If i look under windows services it is running . I also restarted the computer and tried manually stopping and starting the service. The service says "Started". But Windows Update still claims it isn't and won't run. See capture.jpg below.
The solution on Microsoft's website. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 DOES work and you can also get it to work by running windows the trouble shooter.
The thing is i've been using the same restore images and bootcd for quite a while and they have been working fine till now, any idea what could have changed ??.
edit: I've also noticed that when i look at the "view update history" option there are no previous updates showing when there should be quite a few.
