Windows 7 installation from XP

Thread needs solution

I am upgrading Windows from XP to version 7. Can I do a full backup of my hard drive which would include my operating system, xp, and then restore to the version 7 disk (same disk after wiping clean) without putting operating system XP back on the version 7 disk?

Hi Alan,
You are asking if you can install windows 7 on your old computer, then restore files from your back up of XP?

If that's your question, the answer is yes.

Create full back up image of XP
Validate the back up
Ensure the back up can be mounted and browsed
Put that is a safe place
Install windows 7, allowing it to format the entire drive
Install Acronis (make sure the version you are installing is compatible with windows 7)
Activate Acronis, and use the activation wizard to transfer your license from the old to new install
Mount your XP image, browse and copy the data you want on the "new" system
