Wipe Hard Drive, Reinstall Windows 7 from CDs, Restore Apps/Docs/Prefs?
I have a Toshiba Qosmio. I installed Windows 7 on it two years ago and it ran fine for most of the time since then. However, it has now slowed down so much that it's almost useless. I am thinking of the following:
1) Backup internal hard drive to external hard drive using Acronis 2011.
2) Wipe internal drive.
3) Reinstall Windows 7 from original CDs.
4) Restore apps/docs/prefs from Acronis backup, in such a way that the newly installed copy of Windows 7 is not touched or overwritten with the copy of Windows 7 from the backup.
I have the following questions:
1) Is this even possible?
2) Is it likely to fix my computer?
Thanks very much in advance to all for any info!

If you have the Toshiba Recovery Disks, you can use them to do the install. If you plan to install Windows 7 from standard installation media you may have to download some drivers from Toshiba to get Windows to recognize all the hardware in your system, so be sure to download at least the network device driver(s) in advance (I get the Video/Graphics drivers, too.) and save it/them to a CD or external drive. You may have to install the network driver to support your network card/device after the Windows install if Windows 7 doesn't recognize it. Once the network card/device is working, you can get the rest of the drivers you need from Windows Update or Toshiba.
