x32 (86) to x64 Windows 7 restore
Hi,
I currently have 64 bit hardware but I am on 32 bit (x86) OS (Windows 7). I want to switch from 32 to 64. Is it possible to go from 32 to 64 without any errors? The reason I am concerned about losing settings is because I adjusted some system settings as tweaks for my SSD. For example, certain system services like indexing and registry edits. Will settings like these carry over? What settings will I lose? Is there any way to perform a universal restore and keep all my settings?
Thank you.

I agree with Scott. From a registry and driver perspective, there are sufficient differences between 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 that it is safest to treat them as different OS. I think it would be prudent to do a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit.
Create a full-disk backup of your system first. If you have problems with the new installation, you can always roll back. Plus, you'll be able to use the backup image to restore all your user data files.

Also, if you already have data files created, you can restore those or copy them out of the backup file to the desired new locations after you reinstall your programs.
You can also try this to see if if helps you save and retrieve some of your settings:
