XP won't boot, just a cursor blinking
Hello,
I know this topic has been discussed before, but I tried everything I've seen so far in this forum:
I created an image from a ThinkPad T60 laptop with Windows XP Pro SP3 with Acronis True Image 2011.
I tried to put the same image into an identical laptop with Snap Deploy Agent and when I try to boot it, I just see a blinking cursor.
Here's what I did so far:
- I used the Windows XP installation disk to repair the boot;
- I executed FIXBOOT, FIXMBR, CHKDSK /R
- I executed BOOTCFG /REBUILD
- With Diskpart, I set the partition as Active.
I've had this problem before with a different model of laptop:
I had to put the disk as "Compatibility" in the BIOS instead of "AHCI" to execute the previous commands and put it back to "AHCI" afterwards and it worked, but in this case, the hard drive was already in "Compatibility".
Can anybody help?
Thank you!

Tommy,
You probably won't see a lot of interest or feedback from others here since XP is EOL.
In situations like these, using Acronis Boot Media (boot environment) I have previously changed the operate mode of the controller from AHCI to compatibility mode.
Made a full disk image back up
Restored those partitions one at a time to the new disk, in the order they existed on the source disk
Adjusted partition size when applicable
Restored MBR and Track0
Return to BIOS and revert operate mode to AHCI
