start Acronis backup

Hi, i am currently in the 30 day period of testing, and I like it so far. Very fast and clear how to plan, but the question is do I need to startup Acronis every time myself before the backup starts or is the program in the background without a startup of the program? And I don't see 'n icon right in the menu bar of the finder, so How do I know Acronis is doing the backup daily without the need to open the program and to check.

With other words, is the backup running in the background without opening the program and why is there not n icon in the menu bar.
