Why Double Space With a Single Hard Return?

Thread needs solution

When typing a response, I find it annoying that I cannot hit a hard return without creating an automatic double space.  This wastes a lot of space when using enumerated bullets, etc.

Can this be fixed so that a return= single space.  If I want two I'll click twice. :)

The spacing is determined by the style settings applied. When the forum started, it was more as you suggest (you had to double-ENTER to get a paragraph break). Personally, I prefer it the way it is now. I type in paragraphs and like space between them without having to insert extra lines.

When you select your bullet list and apply the bullets (or numbers), the spacing is reduced a little. For example:

Normal paragraphs:

Line 1

Line 2

Line 3

Bullet paragraphs:

  1. Line 1
  2. Line 2
  3. Line 3

If you want a line break without paragraph spacing applied, press SHIFT-ENTER instead of ENTER. For example:

Line 1
Line 2
Line 3
