Migrate easy 7 unable to clone 80GB HD to 250GB via USB ?
Hello,
I have a similar problem, I have a IBM / Lenovo R61i Laptop running WinXp Pro with a 75GB Sata Hard Drive and seem to be unable to clone the content to my new Western Digital WD2500BEVT 250GB Sata Hard Drive via USB, I created a boot cd from the program Migrate Easy 7.0 which I downloaded (Build 644) it only detects my old drive.
I seem to be able to clone the drive contents successfully when in windows / switch to dos like environment, but, the cloned hard drive will not load Windows XP, it never gets past the black screen, just before the Xp load screen.
Is there another version available with updated USB drivers, or a service pack with updates ?
Thanks for the help in advance
U Harneit

Yes,
I tried the swap of the hard drives already, but, unfortunatly same result.
The harddrives will both show up when in Windows mode of migrate easy, but, when I try the boot cd the program won't recognize the new harddrive and will break of the process with the remark that I need two harddrives to make the process work.
It seems that the program is not detecting the bigger newer harddisk when in usb mode.
I read somewhere the only workaround to get the new harddrive working is to use the boot cd and have the old harddrive in the external usb case, and the new harddrive in the laptop, but that too won't work since the new harddrive won't show up in the boot cd programm menu.
Is there a way to update the boot cd program that I created ?
You talked about an iso image, in my account I only have three programs to choose from, all migrate easy but different builds, the one I am using is the latest and most up to date in my list, yet might there be a maybe even newer one which I might not have gotten into my account ?
Thanks Colin, or anyone who might have an answer to my questions in advance

Uwe,
If you purchased ME recently, then if you are within 30 days, you can raise a support request with Acronis and see if they can make an ISO specially for your system.
Does the ME 7 user guide list any Linux parameters that can be used with ME 7?

Yes,
thats a good idea, unfortunatly the 30 days have already expired, and I did not really see this until too late.
Do you know if there is another version of Migrate Easy 7 that has updated USB drivers ?
I originally bought this program for this specific task, but was unable to get at it because of unforseen business obligations that had to be taken care of first.
The advertisement of this program was very promising as it supported large drives, but didn't advise of potential "problems with certain drives" like I guess my drive is.
Please help me here !
Thanks,
Uwe

CloneZilla is an open source and cross platform tool to make a copy of a hard drive and also to restore them after wards. It's a tough tool for non nerds as it requires some background knowledge. First of all it’s not a software you install on your computer. You download CloneZilla in form of an ISO image or ZIP file and burn the image to a CD or load the files onto a USB flash drive or hard drive. The next step is to reboot the computer from that medium you created, which may require going into the BIOS and allow booting from a CD or USB device.Once the tool is running, it’s easy to use the simple interface to initiate or restore a backup. There also is sort of a screen shot walk through on the CloneZilla homepage, where you can view some of the options before running the tool.
Thank you.

You need a third party tool that will be able to:
1. Create a clone of your C: partition
2. Store it onto an external USB drive
3. Boot from some rescue / restore CD
4. Load the image onto the new SSD
Acronis True Image seems like a tool that should support this but it's a paid-for software and the trial version cannot create clones. Acronis Migrate Easy is a fully functional tria for 15 days but need both the HDD and SSD connected at the same time which is a bit of a problem for me as a laptop user.
