Migrate Easy Question: Can the primary partition be manually resized?

Thread needs solution

I'm attempting to use Migrate Easy on a trial basis to see if it can do what I want to accomplish. For sake of discussion let's say my current HD is partitioned with 15 GB with recovery data, 80 GB as the C: drive, and 200 GB as the D: drive for data. I want to clone this drive to a 1 TB drive but more importantly I want to resize my C: drive to a larger partition as 80 GB is too small for the OS (Windows 7) and my apps. It appears that Migrate Easy will allow me to resize the D but not the C drive although the 1 TB target drive is 3x as large as the clone source drive.

So the sum of all this is my question, can I resize the C: drive in some way with Migrate Easy, do I need a different Acronis product, or do I need a dedicated repartioning tool in addition to whatever Acronis app I use to clone the disk? I hope this makes sense.

Rodney,

Are you trying the resize booting initially from within Windows or from the Recovery CD? I think you will have better luck if you boot directly from the Linux environment instead of from Windows which reboots into a Linux environment run from the drive you are attempting to clone. If that fails, for your system you might need a reverse clone (especially if your PC is a laptop), this is where the source drive is put into an external caddy and the new drive into the PC and you clone external to interal drive.

Hi Colin,

Yes I was trying to resize while cloning from the active C: drive to an external HD. I am attempting to try it from a different reboot but apparently the trial version of Migrate Easy has disabled the function to create a bootable recovery disc. I used the function to create one on a USB stick but when I booted with it I received an "OS not found" message. Thank you for your response. I understand my options at least :-)
