Product Installation Issues

Hello, last year (2011) I purchased Acronis True Image Home 2011 PC Backup & Recovery boxed version from a well known reseller.
Fast forward to the present (2012) and I just opened the product and tried to install it.
The disc will not load on any drive, any computer, any Windows OS that I have access to.
I cannot even view the contents of the disc in file explorer.
This leads me to believe that i have a bad disc.
Is there a way that i can get a downloadable of Acronis True Image Home 2011 PC Backup & Recovery?
I have a valid serial number inside the disc holder.

Wrong subforum (you got confused by 'PC backup & recovery' on the box, should be in True Image Home' section, but nevertheless) - register the 16-digit serial number as per http://kb.acronis.com/content/2704 ( or if there is 64-digit serial, just create an account and register it there). Then download the installer from https://www.acronis.com/my/products/

I bought Acronis Backup and Recovery Workstation ver 10 a couple of years ago. I just purchased a new computer to replace my old one and would like to install the software on this computer. The installation proceeds to the point where is asks me for the user name and password. The user has no password as I am the only one to use it. Attempts to leave the password blank give the error message "The specified user name or password is invalid" I am running windows 7 64 bit. The program worked fine on my old Vista 64 machine. I did not use a password on that machine either.
This probably has a simple fix. Please advise. My windows temp directory has been cleared

I'm giving the trial a try before I propose it to my manager to make a 6K + purchase.
server: clean&patched virtual 2008r2 domain controller with the AMS installed (firewall disabled)
client: clean&unpatched virtual XP pro SP3 installed from the CD (firewall disabled)
created 2 service accounts for management server and storage node
I've added the temporary trial licenses to the AMS and am trying to do a remote installation with domain admin credentials. The AcronisAggentCore.msi is installed, but the AcronisAgentWindows.msi installer keeps running on the target machine, filling it's logfile with:
1: LicenseServerApiWithTrace::AcquireLicense done with result: 1
1: LicenseServerApiWithTrace::CheckLicense started

Roy,
I think the best thing is to open a support ticket with Acronis which you can do with a trial licence so long as you have registered them to your account.
Have you installed the Acronis Remote Agent?
- Log in to post comments

Hi Colin,
The remote agent was installed on the AMS, otherwise I couldn't start to do the remote installation. Do I need to add it to the client as well ? Seems weird, as It already installed the Agent core and is running the setup of the windows agent
- Log in to post comments

I've retried it and also selected the traymonitor to be installed. After about 20 minutes the installation has completed successfully. I don't know what caused the delay, but it may have been related to the fact that I'm running both the AMS server and client in VMware Fusion.
Keeping this in mind I'll just have to be more patient.
Anyone have an estimated installation time on physical machines ?

I'm running B&R 10 on a 2003 R2 box and have for several years with no problems. It started yelling at me that it couldn't get to the Managed Machine Service (or something like that), and would not start. So I decided to remove it and reinstall, except it tells me that the Windows Installer could not be accessed.
Funny, I can install or uninstall anything else.... So now I've been 2 days removing pieces and parts of Acronis and hoping I don't bluescreen this production box. Just when I thought I finally had it all gone (after the cleanup utility, manually editing the registry for ANY mention of Acronis and the other entries it creates, etc), I went to re-install and it asks if I want to repair or remove. Ugh. ReallY?!
What am I missing to get rid of this so I can re-install?
Any help would be appreciated.

Sean,
First of all are you using the complete installer file or the individual component installers?
Which build are you using?
Does ABR still appear in the Add/Remove programs list?
If you have the individual installers, you need to install the Agent first and it is possible you need to change the logon user (during the ABR install) to your own logon instead of leting ABR set up another Acronis User account.
You should also try installing as elevated Admin using the right click selection on the actual installer file.
When you mention the 'clean up utility' is this the Acronis one or a 3rd party one?
- Log in to post comments

Colin,
I'm using the complete installer file - maybe I should just extract the files and install the pieces one by one? If it detects that it's still there, wouldn't it kick out the same error?
I can't say for certain whether its in the add/remove list or not. It's at a client's site. I would say probably so...
I used the cleanup utility that Acronis provides, and it did remove a lot, but it by no means did a complete job. I'll try to do this as an admin, and try to install little pieces of it. Any other suggestions?
- Log in to post comments

Sean,
I would suggest extracting all the installers and then re-install one at a time. Make sure you do the Agent first, which will require the serial number.
Before you do that though, it would be worth checking if with the complete installer it gives you a repair or uninstall option, this would indicate that ABR has not uninstalled correctly or still has entries in registry. Each time you try to install there should be an MSI log file produced, this should also show where the install failure is occuring. In ABR 10 (if i recall correctly) the installer doesn't automatically link to the MSI file path on error, however you will find it in the User temp folder.

Hi,
This is a newly installed (about a month ago) Windows Server 2003 R2 Domain Controller box. (Had a disk problem and had to reinstall)
I'm trying to install B&R 10 but I keep getting the error in the install agent step: "Certificate Uri is null" and it rolls back the installation.
I've cleared the temp folder. I've made sure the Workstation service is running, and COM + Application, Volume Shadow Copy, Distribution Transaction Coordinator.
I'm at a loss and I don't see any other recommendations as what might be the problem.
I'm installing as the Domain Administrator and I'm specifying my account in the setup so I'm thinking there shouldn't be a permissions problem.
What certificate is it looking for?
Attached is the MSI log file.

The following services mentioned on the original post are all running:
Workstation
Server
COM + System Application
Volume Shadow Copy
Distribution Transaction Coordinator
I just tired it again after rebooting.

Installer generates certificate for agent and places its file in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\Certificates\ClientCertificates\
Its path is stored in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Acronis\Encryption\Client
It's possible that either the folder or the registry key don't have some write permissions f(e.g. for SYSTEM user)

Hi,
The folder would have been created by the installer.
I'll check the registry key/path. I know how to do that.
I'll let you know.

Hi,
We have a problem. I can't find that registry key, nor the path it is in.
BTW, This is a 32bit version of Windows 2003 R2. The folder name you gave was for the 64 bit version.
- Log in to post comments

After rollback this key is deleted if it was created during installation. Why it was not created properly - I don't know. I searched our internal resources and all but few such installation errors were related only to one known issue with Disk Director. For those for Backup and Recovery no solutions applicable to your case are logged.
It's possible to try to create the missing registry values for certificate, like
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\Encryption\Server]
"TrustedCertificates"="C:\\Documents and Settings\\All Users\\Application Data\\Acronis\\Certificates\\Trusted\\"
"UseCertificate"="file:///C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Acronis\\Agent\\certificate.pem#18D6071231231231231231239B81303D75730AF5"
and try to install again, but I wouldn't do it on production system. Even if it can't affect the core backup and recovery functionality.

Hi,
After my last post I played with it some more and found the solution. And I think the key was that this was the only domain controller in the domain. So when I had to reinstall the OS I had to recreate the domain so all of the SIDs were also recreated, thus the file permissions might have changed.
The problem with the disk was some of the OS files got corrupted, the rest of the disk was OK, I think. So I was reinstalling the third party software in the old directories. There were remnants of B&R and Disk Director in the Acronis directory.
To work around this I deleted the the Program Files/Acronis and Program Files/Common Files/Acronis directories and then the the install worked fine.
Thank you for your help with this. Your pointing me at the directory is what got me on the right track.

Installation will not accept the registration number provided when prompted. It does not state if incorrect or what - just nothing. New ssd provided with 3-yearold software that is no longer supported. Couldn't install drive on new computer as TruImage 10 does not support Windows 8, so I tried installing the ssd on my Win7 machine (which recognized the drive) but TruImage 10 will not activate. Drive and software going back if unable to clone old C: drive to ssd. Would like a little more support than a forum, but I'll take what's available. MM

Michael,
Is this TI 10 or TI 2010? There is a big difference between the two.
I assume the serial number appears in your Acronis account OK. You mention 'drive and software' is this a version of TI that came with the drive from the manufacturer?

Hello Zailani,
thank you for your posting!
According to your log checking of serial number fails. Please make sure that you are using right license key and right installation file. The log indicates that you are installing Acronis Backup and Recovery 11 Build 17318.
Besides, since many older product versions were installed on your system it makes sense to run Acronis Cleanup Utility to remove all the rests of previous installations.
Thank you.

Backup & Recovery 11 doesn't support Server 2012, only 11.5 does (since build 37613)

I backed up my entire C:\ but want to restore only one file. How do I go to my backup disk and single out the one file to restore. I have no manual to explain how to bring up the complete list of files on the backed up file.
- Log in to post comments

Not an installaion issue, btw, but - it's possible to double-click the backup in windows explorer and drag-and-drop necessary files , or if you perform restore in the product - change 'backup contents' type to 'files' in the 'data to recover' selection dialog.

1: MSIGEN:GrantUserPrivileges: Failed to grant priviledge 'SeServiceLogonRight' to user 'SBS2008\LocalSystem' with error code '1780'
It looks like Management Server service is run under LOCAL SYSTEM user, which is not supported. Change it in service 'logon' properties to some regular user who is a member of necessary groups (usually local Administrator is a member of them) , see https://kb.acronis.com/content/4459 for more details.

The only solution is to upgrade to the latest version - True Image 2015. True Image 10 is not compatible with Windows 8.

Hi,
I downloaded the installation .exe file from the www.crucial.com/acronis site (free Acronis migration software with purchase of the Crucial SSD). However, when clicking on the .exe file, it is trying to convert it from Word? Usually, I don't have issues installing software, but do not understand why this is prompting to convert it at all. When downloading it from the website, this is the pop-up msg I see:
You have chosen to open:
atih_installer_hd_4061_en-US.exe
which is: Binary File (282 MB)
from: http://dl2.acronis.com
Would you like to save this file?
After saving the file and then opening it, it is prompting with the "Convert to" pop-up.
THANK YOU for your help!

Hello PLeLam,
Please check if running the file as administrator helps (right click on the file - run as administrator). If it doesn't change the situation and other .exe files can be run correctly, please contact Crucial support: https://kb.acronis.com/content/2201
Thank you,

Hi,
I've just purchased Aconis True Image 2016 today. I'm wanting to back up my Windows XP (service pack three) installation (similar to a factory image one gets with a new computer), as I will be wiping my C Drive for installing Windows 10.
However when trying to install True Image 2016, I encountered a number of errors as noted within the enclosed files.
Thanks

Mark,
You didn't mention if you have had a previous version of True Image installed on your PC.
I think your MSI installer for XP might require updating. Whilst this won't solve the immediate problem, I would suggest downloading the recovery ISO from your account, burn it to a CD or to a USB drive and image your PC from within the Linux environment.
This will have two advantages, Windows will not be able ot interfere with the imaging process and you will also have confirmed that the recovery media will boot your PC in an emergency.
If you feel far more comfortable in the Windows environment, then I would redownload the installer file again, in case it has been corrupted and perform the install as an Administrator by right clicking the installer file and selecting 'install as Admin'.
If you did have a previous version of True Image on your system, then running the Acronis Cleaner appropriate to your version of True Image would be a good idea.
