Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office, Live cd

Thread needs solution

I have bought a new dell laptop with win11 installed, it has not been switched on yet, initial setup etc.

I would like to make an image as it is now pre setup incase I need to recover later,

After buying Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office, on my old working laptop can I download the iso, create a live cd and make a backup image of the new laptop with it to a external USB ssd.

Thanks Chris

Chris, welcome to these public User Forums.

If you have purchased a license for ACPHO and this is registered to your Acronis Account then you can download the .ISO file for the Linux based version of the bootable rescue media direct from your account pages.

However there are several factors that may prevent you from making a successful backup of the new Dell laptop when using Linux based media!

The Linux media does not support RAID or BitLocker encryption and may not support some NVMe M.2 SSD drives depending on the driver software used, i.e. it will not support if Intel VMD RST drivers are used.

You would need to create the Windows PE / WinRE version of bootable media and this would really need to be created on the Dell laptop in order to have the best chance of success, which in turn requires booting into Windows 11 and installing ACPHO.  Creating this type of media on your old laptop may not work for the new one due to differences in hardware and drivers.

Most Dell laptops can come with a factory reset option using a hidden partition on the internal drive which would allow the laptop to be returned to the state it had when delivered.  This was true for older Dell laptops I've had but don't know if they continue the practise for the latest ones??

Hi Steve, thank you for your reply.

I allready have a ati 2020 license, I have downloaded and created a bootable cd from the bootable media iso.

I had to temporarily disable secure boot so I could boot from usb cd drive.

When 2020 live cd booted I can see all 6 partitions on the nvme ssd, so it seems to sport it OK.

I have read that ati 2020 does not officially support Windows 11 but may still work,

If i purchase the newer Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office, Will this give me a more up-to-date version of

Bootable media that officially supports Windows 11?

Thanks Chris

Chris, your existing ATI 2020 rescue media will support Windows 11 regardless of Acronis suggesting otherwise.  In reality rescue media is used for doing a bare-metal recovery where the target drive has no installed OS at all, so doesn't look at what the OS is when in that environment.

Upgrading to ACPHO is changing from a perpetual license to an annual subscription.
