Not seeing drives in Dell optiplex 390

Thread needs solution

Hi

I'm trialling snap deploy at the mo. Not getting very far though!

I can't create a master image due to the fact that snap deploy does not see the internal hard disk. Wokrs fine on our Dell Optiplex 380s but no joy on the 390s.

Any thoughts before I scrap this idea and go elsewhere?

Cheers!

Hello Jonathan,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the forum.

I will do my best to help you here.

I would recommend to collect this report and contact our Support team directly so that we can provide you with a solution in the least amount of time. The bootable media does not have the proper drivers for your hard disks most likely.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

I have the same problem. I also have Dell Optiplex 380's and now trying to load some 390's and it cannot find the hard drive in the PXE, Boot CD or stand alone.

Hello Dustin and Erik,

Thank you for your posts. I will definitely help you with resolving these issues.

We have released a build which should address these hardware detection problems. I will follow-up via private messages in a few minutes and provide you with download links.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hi Anton I am having the same issue. I downloaded the latest bootable media, but it's dated april 2011 and does not work. Can you help?

It works!

After uninstalling all of Snap Deploy and then rebooting. I re-installed, rebooted and I am now able to image the Dell 390's with version that Anton sent. Thanks.

I am using snap deploy 3 build 3501 and cannot get it to work with Dell Optiplex 390 with PXE boot, or cd boot.

It does not see the network card, and says no hard disks found. Is there a patch I need to make this work?

I need to resolve soon.

+1 Thanks Anton. great support!

Anton... can you send me the version they are talking about that works with the Dell Optiplex 390 ?

Hello all,

Thank you very much for your posts.

Dustin and Erik, I am glad that the issue was resolved and you are most welcome.

Sean and Patrick, I will definitely assist you with this issue. I'll get back to you in a few minutes with a download link.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hi,

I also have the same problem!

The bootdisk/pxe boot doesnt detect hard drives.

Can you help me please?

Hi Anton, I am not able to image any of the Dell 390's with either the boot media, or pxe boot.
Can you send me a link to the latest boot media or Acronis software which supports the network cards on these D390 desktop machines?

thanks,

So is there some magic version after build 3501? I sent all my logs in and have yet to get a response on what might be going on. We have so many workarounds now our workarounds have workarounds. Not to mention what a pain keeping a beta 4 and a 3501 setup is to keep straight.

I just received the latest drivers from Acronis support. Please disregard the last post . thanks

I just downloaded the build that Anton sent me and worked like a champ on the Optiplex 390. thanks Anton!!!

Hello all!

Thank you for your comments,  I appreciate it.

RN, Patrick, thank you for the updates. We're glad to know that the issue is solved and currently everything's working.

Kenny, Brett, I can see that you have already been provided with the updates. Please let us know whether the issue remains.

We'll be looking for your replies!

Thank you.

Hello Anton,

I have also been struggling with drives not being detected on our New Optiplex390. Could you kindly forward the link to me?

Thanks.

Anton,

I just got off of a chat support trying to resolve this problem. Im currently running the 3501 build and having this issue. I referenced this thread in the chat and was told that the link you are providing is actually the 3501 build. If he or I am mistaken and you are providing links to an update that can possibly resolve this problem, please advise.

thanks.

Hello all,

Thank you for your comments, I will surely provide you with the link to the update in a couple of minutes.

Quaker, thank you for your comment. This is not true, we're providing you with the link to the build #3503, which was provided to the Experts team by the Developers and officially is not available for public download. It was provided specially for solving such issues.

It's very good that you've mentioned the conversation with support. It's highly possible that some of the SPs are not aware of it, and we must be sure that everyone is support knows how to access the update. I have forwarded the message to the Management team, they will make sure this inconvenience is solved.

Please let us know if the update didn't solve the problem or you have any issues, we will be glad to help.

Same issue as the others; working with support via chat and email and still no luck. No reference to the #3503 build. Can I get the link for the new build also? Thanks in advance.

We are having similar problems with version 3501 not seeing HD on Dell 790 and 980 machines. Acronis sent us version 3481 and it sees the HD but download time is about 8 times longer. Then acronis sent us versions 3502 and 3503 but they have issues also and do not work at all on any computer. We are waiting for another attempt.

I am having the same issue with the 390s as above. Could I please receive a link to the updated version? Thanks.

Hello,

I'm currently having the same issue with the boot media not seeing the Hard Disk in a shipment of 390's we just received. Can I also get the new build?

I too have Optiplex 390 and we have the Latest Kaseya Acronis 11 build CD. V 11.0.17217

The Dell 390 NIC and the SATA drives are not detected. FYI, Acronis 10 has the same issue.

We are currently evaluating Snap Deploy on a trial license, but it does not work on our new OptiPlex 390 machines either (older OptiPlex was OK). Could I please have the new build as well? It looks like a great product that suits our needs, but I have to make it work on the new computers.

Has anyone tried if Snap Deploy 4 Beta works on OptiPlex 390 computers?

Thank you for the link however it has not worked for me.
The Acronis splash screen displayes then I try both Snap Deploy & Standalone but the pc never gets any further and just reboots. I there another version I can try to which shall work on my Optiplex 390?

All I require the software to do is make a backup of my PC, I am not interested in Snap Deployment etc.

Okay, it's been 2 days and no response. I'm sure along with others that have shipments of computers that are waiting to be imaged but can't because the Boot Media is missing drivers. Is there any ETA on a link being distributed or published out to customers?

I received a link last week but it did not work for me, I have asked if there is another version available however I have not had a reply to this request.

Has anyone been successful in adding a driver with PE Builder to detect the harddrive on OptiPlex 390 machines?

Hi!
I have the exact same issue : not seeing any drive with Optiplex 390

Is this possible to get the new build ?

Thanks in advance

As stated above, this problem requires immediate attention for there are many people experinecing the same problem.

I have 2 brand new Dell 790 (non Advanced Format drives) that are exhibiting the issue.

I'm running the trial version of Snap Deploy 3 and time is running out on the trial as well as getting these computers into production.

Thank You in advance for your help in this matter.

Update: To add some additional info and findings:
Snap deploy 3 does display the the drives if the Bios Setting for SATA drives is set to AHCI. The problem is that I'm imaging XP SP #3 and XP doesn't work with AHCI, only ATA. The computer will Blue Screen if your try to boot using AHCI and once you change the BIOS settings to ATA, the computer will boot successfully. It appears that once you have made the change, there is no going back to AHCI setting so you will not be able to re-image this computer later down the road unless you blow away the hard drive and start over.

We're having the same issue with our Acronis boot media not recognizing the drives in our new Optiplex 390 machines. (using USB boot media or CD-ROM boot disc). I'm interested in the link for the new build as well (3503 build) but I'm even more interested in learning how I can inject the new drivers into one of my old builds. We like to use the old build as it plays nicer with our version of VMware Convert (allows us to make a VM out of .tib file). If we use the new Acronis builds the same process fails when trying to convert the .tib file to VM.

Can you PM the link for the 3503 build as you've done for some of the other posters and also point me to information that will help me get the new drivers into an older build (say True Image 10 for example)?

Hmmmm.... Build 3504 does not solve the problem, it is even worse. After I boot a computer via PXE, I get to the PXE menu, where I can select from Acronis Master Image Creator, Acronis Snap Deploy Agent and Windows. If I try to start Master Image Creator or Snap Deploy Agent, the system shows (very quickly) a line that ends in '....not found!'. It then tries to start whatever function I selected (Acronis logo in the top left of the screen) and after maybe 15 seconds it says 'Restart' and the system reboots. So I do not even get to the next screen where I should be able to create a master image or restore an image....

Did you email a moderator directly? I've been waiting for a link or a response since last week and along with others no response.

I just bit the bullet and paid $49.99 to buy and download the Acronis TrueImage Home 2012 Standard. I made a boot disc and it worked just fine on the new Optiplex 390 pcs. Before I purchased I downloaded the trial version, installed it on my pc, made a boot disc, and tested the boot disc in the Optiplex 390 system. Unlike earlier versions TrueImage Home 2012 recognized the hard drive on my Optiplex 390. The build I'm using now is #5545. As far as I can tell this the VMware converter doesn't now how to convert the .tib files made with this version of TrueImage2012. If I want to convert the .tib image of my Optiplex 390 to a VMware virtual machine I need to buy yet another piece of software. For most of my other PCs I can make an image using True Image 10 (not 2010) and then use the free VMware standalone converter to convert the .tib file into a VM.

I might as well just use the Microsoft utilities to deploy images if I'm not getting the support I need from Acronis. At least, MS support you'll get an answer within a few hours.

Im having the same issue (not seeing any drive) with the Optiplex 390. Could I also get the new build please?

Same here.. I don't have a support contract with Acronis or I would have had this resolved by now. I'm taking a shot at the WIndows AIK toolkit for imaging.

I put an Intel PRO/1000 CT PCIe NIC in a Dell OptiPlex 390 and disabled the onboard Realtek NIC. Using this NIC (with Snap Deploy Beta 4) I was able to create an image of the harddrive on a network share. Transfer speeds were around 11 MBytes/sec. I know it is not an ideal solution, but it works and I will now try to restore the image to multiple OptiPlex 390 machines simultaneously. I have ordered Intel NICs for all 13 of our new OptiPlex 390s.

Hello all,

Thank you very much for your posts. I will definitely help you with this issue in Dell Optiplex 390.

I will follow-up with a private message and provide you with a download link for the build that has this problem resolved.

If you need anything feel free to contact me directly.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

The release from the private message doesn't work with our OptiPlex 390 model. It came the same error message as before by creating a new master image.
