Snap Deploy 3 - Can't Deploy image to Dell Optiplex 380

Thread needs solution

I'm using build 3329. Tried to deploy an image to a new Dell Optiplex 380 Desktop and it PXE boots but hangs at the Acronis Snap Deploy 'blue square' screen. i.e before it shows in the 'Computers available for deployment' window on the Management Console PC screen. Tried using the latest Bootable Media Disk and the result was same. I installed the disk from the 380 (a Samsung HD161GJ) in an Optiplex 360 unit and it took a 360 image with no problem. But when I triied the Western Digital disk from the 360 in the 380 unit no go - it hangs. Can anyone help?

The problem seems the same as that quoted in '9387: Deploy agent freezes on "processing please wait" screen on New dell Optiplex 380.' Would someone in the Acronis Support please provide me with the solution ASAP? We're expecting a delivery of a lot of Optiplex 380's very soon!

Hi, I'm having the same issue with our latest shipment of computers, all Optiplex 380. This means that I can't deploy them.

The machines hang at the 'processing' screen and fail to go any further.

For the last few years we've had to update a couple of files to add support for the new models of computer. If this is the case again could I get a copy of the files to get me working please?

Thanks in advance.

Hello I'm facing similar issues with a batch of Optiplex 780 pc's.

I try to deploy an image to a Otiplex 780 pc . I am using build 3329 iso file which I downloaded this morning from your website.
The pc will contact my deploy server and in my management console I can see the pc that is ready for deployment. I am using a
template to deploy my image that I have available on my server. It will start and then the pc will reboot.

Hello BebeVer!

Welcome to Acronis Forum, we are glad to greet you here!

Thank you for the log provided via PM. According to the error the issue is not with the PXE, but with accessing the target machine.

Looks like either the target machine is not available or it cannot connect to it. Hard to say for sure - this log doesn't provide us much information, so the situation requires investigation. Could you please specify:

  1. Could you please make sure that you can ping that machine from the PXE server computer?
    (Start -> Run -> cmd -> ping 192.168.6.57)
  2. Are both machines in the same subnet?
  3. What exactly is shown on the target machine when you boot it to the NIC?
  4. Please gather Acronis Info
  5. Please obtain Wireshark output

After that please kindly either send this info to me or contact support directly with the information attached. Should you decide to deal with support, please keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

We have a ASD build 3345 and are facing issues with the Dell Optiplex 380.

The Network Adapter does not get recognized when we try and PXE boot the system. Is there an update for the PXE server or ASD build ?

Thanks in advance

Hello Ravi,

Thank you very much for your post. I will definitely help you with this.

The latest build of Acronis Snap Deploy 3 is 3329. Most likely you are using the latest version.

I will send you a private message with instructions for updating the Acronis Snap Deploy 3 PXE Server, I am confident this will fix the network card recognition problem.

Please let me know if you need additional help.

Thank you.

Hi Anton,

We use ASD 3345. This is with the Bigfix Enterprise Solution and Acronis Snap Deploy came as a part of the Bigfix package.

Are you sure i should use the upgrade path.

regards

Hello again, Ravi,

Thank you very much for clarifying.

In this case, please do not update the PXE Server. I would really appreciate if you can give me the full name of the application that you are using, you can send me a private message with this information. I will then check with our Expert team and provide you with an alternative.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hi Anton,

As mentioned in my previous comment - we use the Acronis Snap Deploy 3 for PCs Build 3345. This was part of the Bigfix Enterprise Suite (BES). www.bigfix.com. I guess Bigfix OEM's the OS Deploy solution from Acronis.

regards

Hello Ravi,

Thank you

Hello Ari,

I would like to welcome you to our forum and thank you for posting. I will definitely assist you.

Just in case, you can always download the latest bootable media from your Acronis web-account. To update the Snap Deploy 3 bootable components though, you will need custom links provided by our Support team. However, I will send you a private message with download links for both of them to make it more convenient for you.

If you need additional help, please let me know.

Thank you.

Can I get the instructions for Snap Deploy 3.0 build 3329 to image/deploy a Optiplex 380?

Thanks

Hi we are running into the same problem with the Optiplex 380 NIC card. The NIC is not being recognized. We are in the software selection phase for the university. Is there a list of supported NIC cards? We have approximately 150+ machines incoming in the next couple of weeks.

English / Build 3329

Chris

Hello all,

Thank you for your messages. I will definitely assist you.

In a few minutes I will follow-up with private messages with the instructions.

Chris, I am very sorry for the inconvenience. We do not have such hardware list but I will create an Enhancement request and send it to our Management team so that in the future we can avoid such situations.

Please let me know if you need additional help.

Thank you.

Hello,

I'm facing the same issue with Optiplex 780 machines.

I use build 3329 which I downloaded yesterday evening from your website.
The machines contact the deploy server and in the management console I can see the machines that are ready for deployment.
After connecting and starting deployment the machines restart....

Can you help me to get this working?

Hello all!

Thank you for your comments!

Dear Valerie! Chris is currently working with Anton, but we're quite sure that the issue is fixed.

Should you have the same issue - let us know!

Dear Mark! The issue you've described is not related to the one this thread is opened for: since your machines can be seen in Management Console and you can initiate the deployment then the NIC is identified correctly.

Reboot of the target machines can be caused by:

  1. Insufficient licenses in the License Server
  2. Network conflicts

As far as I can see from your account, you're using the trial version of the software. Please keep in mind that with one license of Acronis Snap Deploy you can deploy only 5 machines, so the sixth one will be rebooting at the very beginning of the process (on the stage of License verification). Should you deploy the image to less than 5 machine, then this situation will require investigation. Please gather the following information:

  1. Wireshark
  2. OS Deploy Server logs
  3. OS Deploy Agent logs
  4. Acronis Info from the machine where Console, Deploy Server and PXE is installed
  5. Screenshot of the license server

After that please kindly contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

I installed the changes the you sent me and recreated the boot cd after the changes and everything is working now
I am able to install my images from a nas drive again as the network card is now being detected

thanks for your help

We want to try Acronis Snap Deploy, but we get same error as many users describe above on our testing machine Dell OptiPlex 780. Is it possible to obtain latest PXE files, even if we just trying Snap Deploy (but we cant try anything due to this error)?

We want to try: 3.0.3399 EN

Hello Filip,

Thank you for posting and welcome to our forum. I will certainly assist you with this.

I can definitely provide you with the latest PXE file so that you can update them, however, before doing this in order to prevent compatibility issues, I would really appreciate if you can let me know more about the version you are running. Currently, the latest build of Acronis Snap Deploy 3 is - 3329. You may be using an OEM version, if so, please provide additional information about it.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Thank you.

Hi Valerie,

Anton's fix does work. The update does seem to work on 90% of the workstations (Dell Optiplex 380's). For some strange reason, some of the machines won't pick up our DHCP, even with the bootable media. Our Norton test software does. It may be a NIC firmware issue with the updated drivers. I'm sure we'll be able to resolve it.

For the most part the update is quick and painless.

Chris

Hello,

I'm facing the same issue with Optiplex 780 machines.

I use build 3329 which I downloaded a trial from your web site.
I am working for a small company and need to prove the concept before they will buy the licences.
I have about 20 Dell Optiplex 780 that will need licences, but they have bought other software in the pass that does not work. I am a big fan of Acronis and used it on other projects.

The machines contact the deploy server and in the management console I can't see the machines at all.

They PXE boot, get a dhcp address and then we select Snap Deployment agent it pull down the agent and then gives me the options to specify networking setting for 5 seconds and the displays the Acronis Snap Deploy 'blue square' screen but nothing appears on the deployment server.

Can you help me to get this working?

Many Thanks

 Hi all!

Thank you for your comments and for lkeeping us posted!

Dear Filip,

thank you for clarification! I will send you the respective instuctions via Private Message in a minute.

Dear Chris!

Thank you for mentioning that the solution didn't help. We didn't receive news about it via PM from you, so it's nice you've updated us here.

In such case this situation requires investigation. Please make sure that you have DHCP and PXE server installed on different machines. Should they be installed on different computers, please gather the following information:

  1. OS Deploy Server logs
  2. Agent logs
  3. Acronis Info from the machine whether PXE, OS Deploy server and Management Console are installed
  4. Wireshark output

After that please kindly contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

Dear Martyn!

Thank you for your loyalty and for the detailed description. It's hard to say for sure, but it looks like the problem was caused by the glitch of Agent bootable components loading. Let's update it: I will send you the instructions via PM in a minute.

Should the issue persist, please follow the instructions I've just provided Chris with - this diagnostic data will provide us with the clear picture of the issue and will allow us to find an appropriate solution.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Hi All,

I figured out a kind of work around for the issue. It does not make life more beautiful, but it does work.
When the attached switch is set to negotiate speeds, the deploy will not work at all and reboots occur.
When I set the network ports to be 100Full and during agent startup (the 5 seconds) choose the same speed for the agent, the deployments succeed.
I figure it has something to do with the way network speeds are negotiated by newer NIC's.

Greetings,

Mike

Hi,

I am using Snap Deploy 3, using the bootable media the nic doesnt not show up.

Can I please have the fix for this, to create new media that will work with my nic.

Thanks,
Adam

Hello Adam,

Thank you for your post. I will certainly assist you.

Please give me a few minutes and I will send you a private message with all the information.

If you need additional help or have any other questions, please let me know.

Thank you.

I'm hitting the same problem where Snap Deploy does not seem to work with the NIC of recent Dell machines (specifically the 780 and the T3500)

I'm running versions 3.0.3292 of the deployment agent and the image creator. I'm trying to boot from a CD image.

Any help in getting this working would be most appreciated.

After applying the instructions sent from Anton I now get the following

Kernal Panic - Not syncing VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (1,0) Please Advise
