acronis disconnects raid controller

Thread needs solution

I've been experiencing my drive getting disconnected while backing up using atih 2016 build 6595.

I'm on windows 10 64bit v 1703

my backup dive is an external usb 3.0 drive connected to a usb 3.0 port on my pc

the primary drives back up fine, but when a backup for my e drive is running the drive disappears after 5 minutes. this is on a marvel sata6g controller set up as a raid1 with 2 seagate 1tb drives, the mb is a gigabyte ga77zx-ud5h.

this problem began after a windows security update.

I only backup this drive once every 2 weeks, and it never fails during that time. I've checked all the drives including the backup drive for errors and none were found.

I tried disabling my  av, backing up form a clean boot, leaving the system alone during the backup, but it continuously removes the drive and fails. I haven't had any viruses or malware, and have had no hardware problems.

any ideas what has changed?

thanks in advance

It is possible that the Windows update overwrote the driver for the Marvel Raid controller (I see that this controller is on the motherboard). Check the driver for the Marvel controller in Device Manager and see if you can roll it back. If that does not work download the latest driver from the Gigabyte www site.

In the past I have had issues with raid installations when not using NAS standard drives; it is possible that the system thinks that the HHDs on the raid controller have been disconnected due to performance issues when using HDDs that are not rated for raid installation.

Please update us on your progress.

thanks

I had no luck with this. I began to suspect a failing controller or drive, so I tested with the HP backup utility that came with my external drive. it worked flawlessly. went back to acronis and the marvel raid drives disappear in about 2 minutes again. I did run the seatools full diagnostics on the raid and each drive, no problems found.

I did a repair install, again no difference the drives disappear, and now the tray icon no longer appears during a backup, and the email notification no longer works.

this is going from bad to worse.
