Problem entering serial number

Thread needs solution

I have just bought an upgrade to TI 2016 from 2012 and when I come to the screen where I need to enter the serial number I have a problem. Regardless of whether I cut-and-paste or type directly into the entry box, I can only enter 29 characters (including dashes) which is not even half of the serial number. I am upgrading because my TI 2012 will not work on Win10.

I've not found another posting on the forum about this so I wonder if there is a setting in Win10 that is somehow limiting the number of characters??

It is a known fact that TI 2016 can not be installed over TI 2012. I suspect your problem is related. If you did install over TI 2012, you will need to uninstall all components of TI through Control Panel/Programs and Features. Then run the Acronis Cleanup Utility https://kb.acronis.com/content/48668 . Follow all steps on the page including the registry cleanup. Leaving an improperly installed Acronis service behind can result in a non bootable system. When you are done with the Cleanup Utility instructions, reboot the computer. Then install TI 2016.

Sorry everyone - it's official I'm going mad! Somehow I managed to work with the TI 2012 installation programme instead of the 2016 one. I know now that they look very different but the 2012 one doesn't actually say 2012 on it - not anywhere I could see anyway! - so I didn't know any better. Once I realised what I had done the problem went away.
