the scheduler does not work ! ! !

Thread needs solution

Unfortunately, backup failed this morning on my Surface. Acronis says the last backup was yesterday (7/19) and the next backup is 7/21 (tomorrow). Yesterday I just closed the lid (keyboard) that according to the power settings puts the Surface to sleep. This morning I opened the lid and it didn't show "Surface" but went to the Windows log in page that confirms that it was in sleep mode and didn't boot up.

I checked the power settings and fast startup is still unchecked. I thought that restarting might initiate the backup but it didn't. Apparently when starting up from sleep Acronis skips the task. There are entries for today (7/20) in the Logs and Schedule2 folders so I'm attaching both.

I use another new Dell computer with Acronis 2016 build 6571 installed with a weekly backup task scheduled for 6am Sundays. I checked its power settings and fast startup is check. It's been running backups when started from sleep as well as when booted up so there's more to my failures than just fast startup.

Regarding the effect of fast startup on boot time, I don't see any difference. My Surface without fast startup is faster than our desktops with it enabled. After enjoying the fast startup of the Surface I used SSD in both desktops. I just measured my Surface and it took 15 second during which it displayed "Surface." I entered my 4 number password and reached the desktop display in a total of 26 seconds. I then enabled fast startup and repeated the test. Times were 10 seconds and a total again of 26 seconds. I lost time in before being able to enter the password. (I changed my power back to disable fast startup.)

Ray, thanks for the further log files - the only ones showing any information of interest were the Schedule2 logs which showed the following events.

There are no entries indicating that any scheduled tasks were attempted during this period.

How do I sign up to for Acronis beta testing? I beta test Quicken, Quickbooks and nutrition program.

Yesterday I shut down the Surface. This morning after powering up it created a backup. So powering up from sleep will skip making a backup and advance the schedule as if it did. Powering up from shut down will create the backup as it should.

Regarding beta testing, I logged into the beta site, registered and received acceptance confirmation. I compared the 2016 and 2017 manuals in Word and have attached a pdf. Most of the "changes" are changes is page numbers and graphics.

Not much new of importance to me in 2017 other than I can again sort the task list that they removed in 2015. Acronis 2014 still has a far superior user interface in my opinion. I tried to view the beta forum but for some reason access is denied. Unlike other software beta testing Acronis doesn't gives you a free copy of the released version for your work.

Currently, it seems like 2017 beta is primarily bug fixes and some appearance tweaks from 2016 - I don't believe the fastboot issue is fixed yet - waiting for beta 2 to test and see.

Yuu're right, coming out of sleep will not trigger a missed backup - only a full startup triggers the missed backup setting.  This is the same limitation as fasboot which works similar to sleep (sleep saves OS state to volatile memory - hibernation saves OS state to the hard disk) as the missed backup is only triggered when a full start has been detected and the previously schduled backup was missed.

Not sure whether or not 2017 beta testers will get a free copy or a dscount or anything - good question for the beta forum.  Once you have downloaded and installed the 2017 beta (if you do), I believe you'll get access to the forum then. If not, start a chat with support and they should be able to help get you access to the 2017 forum.

Hello All,

Release version of Acronis True Image 2017 will handle start-ups from hibernation state and sleep/standby in the same way as normal boot-ups and will run missed backups as many users expect.

Regards,

Slava

I've installed the beta 2 of ATI 2017 and verified that it does backup from sleep when I awaken my Surface 3.

That's great news Ray.  Did you go back and enable fastboot / fast startup as well to see if it works then too? I don't have hibernation enabled so no fast startup at this time and haven't gotten around to trying it out.

On my Surface 3 I enabled fast startup yesterday, put it to sleep, and this morning when I woke it up Acronis ran the backup. So it works with or without fast start enabled. I'm using ATI 2017 build 3070.

Excellent!  Thanks for verifying.
