Partitions in .tib Disc Restore

Thread needs solution

I am trying to replace my 250 GB SSD with a 1TB SSD. I backed up the 250 drive with a .tib file in Acronis True Image 2017. I was able to transfer the data to the 1TB drive but the patitions remained the same as the old drive and I did not gain any space for the "C" drive. I tried it several times first with the default settings which yielded a bootable drive, but no extra space. Then I tried adjusting the size of the "C" drive partition of 227 GB where all the programs were located. I cannot change the size of that partition although I can change the space before and after it. I can change the size of some of the smaller partitions. What am I doing wrong? All I want to do is use the extra space on the new drive for program files.

Any suggestions you could give would be appreciated.

Andrew, welcome to these public User Forums.

ATI should try to automatically resize your partitions when doing a disk level restore (see forum topic: [How to] recover an entire disk backup - for step by step details.)

However, if you already have done the recovery and have a working drive, I would suggest using one of the free partition manager tools that are available to move & resize your partitions instead of going through another recovery attempt.

One that I have used many times is the MiniTool Partition Wizard which you can use to move any of the smaller Windows Recovery partitions to the end of your new 1TB SSD drive, thus making space after your main C: OS partition to resize this by expanding it into the free space.  You can start this process from the Windows application and let it restart the computer to do the actual moves and resizing.

As always Steve's advice is excellent. MiniTool Partition Wizard is easy to use even if you have never tried to resize partitions before.
