ATI 2020 logs

Thread needs solution

I'm discovering several serious (to me) shortcomings in the 2020 version of True Image.
1. No log is attached to the email notification - just a start/complete message. I rely on seeing the version name/number
2. from Windows Explorer, the only option now is 'validate' (both for .tib and .tibx files)
3. No progress or ETA is shown while a new-format file is being created
4. Likewise, hovering over the icon no longer shows % complete

And like others have reported, no 'mount' option.

Friends, is there a way round any of these problems, while Acronis work on solutions?

And to Acronis: please DON'T release software that loses features, especially without advanced warning that in fact you are charging us for a beta. And since when could Acronis break our backup settings with a faulty update to your data centre? And how can I break/disable that link from your Data Centre definitions to my existing backups?

Clive, not sure why you are seeing most of the issues you have listed as they are not common to most users.

My email notifications (from my computer for tasks) do contain most information beyond just giving start / end messages.  There are differences in the message content but this is down to changes in the logs used depending on the type of backup being created.  The new .tibx files now store most information in the backup_worker logs, keeping just basic information in the ti_demon logs (used for notifications).  The older .tib files still use the ti_demon logs as before.

Explorer will show different options depending on the type of file selected, so for .tib files you should still see a Mount option if the .tib file was created by an older version of ATI for a disk backup.  Mount was never offered for Files & Folders .tib files are they do not contain any partition data.

The same system tray icon showing backup progress is still shown for ATI 2020 backup operations, but the AAP system tray icon introduced with 2017 Next Gen, 2018 & later has been changed to be a notification list of Acronis actions / status.  Hovering over the tray icon does still show percentage complete etc.

Acronis have published details of the limitations for ATI 2020 and .tibx backups that can be found via the FAQ sticky topic in the main 2020 forum.

If you continue to not see correct operation for ATI 2020, then see KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings - and try some of the actions described there.

Thanks Steve.

I have defined a file backup, and on that i do get a fuller log - full enough for me.

I deleted and redefined troublesome tibx backup of my disk, and still no information (see attached).

I do see the progress % and ETA now.

I will work through the KB60915 items as you suggest.

Clive, your PDF log data is how it is now with the new .tibx logs - the bulk of information is now moved to be in backup_worker logs instead of staying in the ti_demon logs.

Clive, the information in the ti_demon logs for .tibx backups (and in the corresponding emails) is definitely less detailed than for .tib backups and is definitely less useful for diagnosing problems.  You could submit Feedback requesting changing back to the old amount of data, but I don't think Acronis is likely to change.

There has been speculation that the inclusion of file names in the email is a violation of the EU's GDPR.  It seems reasonable that the information could still be included in the log (since it is included in the backup_worker log) even if not in the email.

Perhaps we could request 3 logs: the current ti_demon log - just status information, the old format ti_demon log for customer diagnosis, and the backup_worker log for Acronis support diagnosis.

Patrick, Steve,
 thank you both.

I can live with this, now I know it's not something I have done wrong.

I still can't mount a disk image (resident on a NAS), but on my remaining 2019 machine I also can't (it seems), so perhaps that's a local problem.

Is there an easy way to view the backup_worker logs?

Clive, there are no official tools for viewing the new backup_worker logs but I have my own Powershell script that I use to render them more readable which I would be willing to share with you via a PM if interested?  (Note: this has not been submitted to or vetted by Acronis, so will be used at your own risk).
