Am I blind ? Or is this not possible ?

Thread needs solution

Hello all,
I am running the True Image 2013, and recently purchased a harddrive RAID enclosure totaling 9TB of storage.

I need to make some serious backup of all my files (mostly video editing files, photos).
Previously, I have always dragged and dropped the files from the source into the backup harddrive, however I am looking for more sophisticated backup solution. Hence why I got the True Image.

I am trying to accomplish one thing, and one thing only, I will demonstrate on a simple example;

- Say I have a file with multiple folders inside and I need to make a backup of that.
- So I go and use the "File Backup" feature in Acronis, great everything is now backed up!
- Now, I add more files into the original file I backed up, and need to reflect that onto my backup drive.
- So I go into Acronis and run that previous backup again. It makes ANOTHER backup (Incremental).

That is NOT what I want, I simply wish to add whatever files I have changed in the file to the original backup I made the first time, without making another "incremental" one. And also without the need to make another FULL backup. Is this not possible ?

I hope this makes some sense.

Thank you in advance for any help!

The only mechanism that will sort of do what you want would be to use the Sync feature, but that has some drawbacks.
From a True image point of view, a full plus incrementals is the best result as you get compression, though this might not be much if you are using already compressed files, and the ability to restore at any point in time.

Whilst this might not be what you planned, a full with subsequent incrementals doesn't take up more disk space than just dragging and dropping files and when or if you need to recover selecting the last incremental will look like one backup, it also will allow you to schedule if you wish.

Sync which would almost do what you want has the problem that it is not a one way synchronisation so in your case that would be 'dangerous' as deleting a file in one place will delete it in the other.

You could possibly use Non stop Backup using the movie folder as the source.

Other than that True Image isn't the software you were looking for, there are backup/archiving programs out there which others here have used, i just can't recall the name at the moment.

Microsoft SyncToy or Robocopy, both free, can do what you want. Robocopy would require more setup, as you'd need to create a batch file but it's not difficult. I've used both for file-based backups, but still use True Image for system/drive imaging.
