The application cannot establish a network connection for some reason of which there can be many. If you are typing in the network path desired rather than browsing for it try hitting the enter key once path is entered and see if that helps.

Any chance you are using 'NoScript" or other securiy which is not allowing the check to clear.

I did a backup to my other pc on the network. The network credentials it wanted was
Computer name
User name
user password
the line test worked.

Martin,

Is your network setup as a workgroup or homegroup? Networked PC's need to be run as a workgroup as the homegroup arrangement is a great way to share files but not much else. See this link for a brief explanation:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/41361-42-networking-windows-homegroup…

For a complete run down of networking look here:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/join-or-create-a-workgroup

I am using eset SmartSecurity 7 for antivirus and firewall.

My LAN is setup as a workgroup.

I'll take the suggestion about interference by the firewall ... I'll setup for the backup to run and disable all firewall filtering ... I'll also disconnect from the internet while filtering is disabled.

I'll report after that test ... but that won't be until after the thunderstorm completes.

eSet has a right click option to furn it off for minutes or hours or until reboot.

I turned eset firewall filtering OFF ... Acronis file backup still fails.

What do these error codes mean? Additionally, what causes these codes to be generated?

When you browsed to the destination, did you enter the network credentials and were you able to test and complete the connection to the remote PC?
If yes, make sure you use a username and a password. Make sure this user has the right access rights for the share you select on that remote computer.

Just as a test, I mapped the notebook PC C: drive as a folder on my desktop (the desktop is the PC with Acronis installed).

I was then able to backup a selected subfolder on the notebook PC via the LAN.

I think this rules out any problem with either my firewall software (eset) or firewall filtering rules.

Does anyone know what the error codes mean ... or what causes them to be issued?

BTW, found these forum entries with the same issue ... also unresolved ...

As an additional test, I created a backup of 1 folder on the notebook PC via the LAN.

This was successful.

The other backups I tried were to backup the entire C: drive on the notebook -- that still does not work.

For that matter, I would like to create a partition backup of the notebook PC.
