Disc backup fails Not enough memory (0x70002)

Thread needs solution

== UPDATE ==

I have now completed and validated a series of FULL DISK backups using Rescue Media for the following versions of the Acronis:

TI 2010 - 2014-10-20
TI 2011 - 2014-10-23
TI 2012 - 2014-10-19
TI 2013 - 2014-10-20
TI 2015 - 2014-10-23

I also tried the same using TI 2014 and failed. Why all those versions would complete successfully and the only one that failed is a version that sits between two others (2013 and 2015) that succeeded, beats the heck out of me... May be someone has some better idea and could kindly share it here.

It's also fair to state here that TNQ may have had a valid point all along on what he said about using the Rescue Media for this purpose, with only one caveat still to be resolved: It is really possible to obtain Full Disc backups (including the hibernate partition) by using the rescue media. The caveat is also the million dollar question: Are any of these successful and validated backups actually recoverable, should disaster strike?...

I wonder if he has decided to try it by now?...

P.S. - Edited to add the entry for TI 2011.

LinYu,

It does seem that you have had a good bit of bad luck in all of this. In reading your last several posts it is clear you have gone a long way in this ordeal and have gained some good knowledge along the way as well. These are good things.

At this point it appears that TI 2014 is were your problems lies specifically with the boot media not working correctly. So I have a question for you. Have you tried going to your Acronis account on the Support site and downloading the boot media iso file so that you could use it to create a boot CD/DVD to use? If not, I would give that a try.

As for your post on UEFI, your machine being configured as a MBR basic disk will not boot in UEFI mode and so the Legacy boot option is your only option. Legacy boot is used on some machines for support for older 32 bit apps/hardware such as fingerprint readers to function on a UEFI capable system.

My direction on use of the EaseUS app was not so much for use as a backup utility as it was for use as a partition management tool. Nonetheless, it is to bad the app proved not to work for you.

I think your plan of creating backups that have been validated and then at some point attempting a restore to another disk is sound. Do try downloading the boot media iso file from the Support site and create a boot CD/DVD with it and have another go at a backup. It just might work!

Oh, tell me about it, Enchantech... Bad luck, indeed. And the worst part of it is I can't make myself trust all those backups from Rescue Media, plus all the others I made (leaving the hibernation partition out) in the Windows environment with several versions of Acronis. I have this nagging feeling that, if disaster strikes, I'll be caught pants down, so to speak... :)) All because of that hibernation thing!... Ironically, I couldn't care less about the freaky partition. I could live perfectly happy without it, just like with all my other laptops.

And yes, I have done what you suggest about the ISO image. Not once, but twice, in case something had gone wrong the first time. I also emailed Acronis Madhu, now asking him what he makes out of this experience with several editions of Acronis Rescue Media, where ALL of them do complete FULL BACKUPS of several TI editions, EXCEPT 2014... I'm waiting for his response and will report here what he says for your own analysis and, if possible, your own comments.

Thanks for your continue support.

About this paticular issue, I'm not so sure, I found this entry in my Bios configuration which I would like you to please comment:

"STARTUP:

      UEFI / Legacy Boot....................................................... Both

--  UEFI / Legacy Boot Priority................................. Legacy First

            --  CSM Support....................................................... Yes

      Boot Mode..................................................................... Quick"

What do you make of this? And how would you translate it for the man in the street like myself?

Thanks for your continued support.

LinYu,

My comment to your question is thus, the machines bios firmware is (firmware interface, called Extensible Firmware Interface, abbreviated EFI) and is capable of booting in "Both" UEFI/Legacy Boot modes. Your system OS install being created on an MBR basic disk does not use the EFI capabilities of the bios thus "Legacy First" is enabled. CSM Support indicates that your bios is set to use "Secure Boot" which on your Windows 7 install is required by the video drivers in all likelihood. "Boot Mode" Quick is a fast boot mode that does not scan all USB ports for example during boot for a more "instant on" user experience.

I am supplying a link that is targeted at preparing a USB thumb drive for the installation of Win 7 and 8 in UEFI mode. That has nothing to do with your question here but the content of the article goes into the UEFI, EFI, Legacy aspects of the bios is good detail and I hope might clear up some things for you.

Enchantech,

I also followed the link you provided and read the article. Yes, it is very detailed but, in fact, but as you suggested, that is not the problem I am dealing with at the moment, as I believe that changing from a Legacy to a UEFI booting mode would probably not provide a different outcome during backup, would it?

Out of curiosity, I went back to the BIOS menu and saw there this entry that seems related to what is described in the above article:

BOOT Menu
       -- Security
             -- UEFI Bios Update Option
-- Flash BIOS updating by end-users........................ Enabled
                    -- Secure Rollback Prevention................................... Disabled

What can you say about this?

Thanks

LinYu,

I am going to assume your machine has bios revision version number 1.27 or later installed. In the 1.27 version firmware the feature enhancement of Secure Rollback Prevention was added to work in conjunction with Windows WMI. Basically for administration of the UEFI bios and the installed OS either Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 7. I am attaching a link to the README file of the 1.27 bios version for your overview. I recognize this may be beyond your understanding but none the less it does describe this noted change.

In answer to your question concerning a different outcome during backup you are correct, nothing would change, the outcome would be the same.

Hi Enchantech,

You are absolutely right… I followed the link and read the materials and, yes, it is way beyond what my teeth could grind… :)) But I managed to get out of that long, heavy reading with at least one note to post here:

In spite of BIOS version 1,27 being listed there as issued on 2014/07/04, my System Information file shows that the BIOS version installed in my machine is as follows:

LENOVO G5ET95WW (2.55), 9/13/2013

Whatever that means…

I must humbly confess that I cannot avoid this strange, awkward feeling that the more I read about the issue the more confused I get… So, coming back to the basics, what problems am I bound to encounter if I decided to get rid of this infamous Hibernate Partition?...

Well here I am...an owner of a shiny new 3rd Gen Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon, 256SSD, i5-5300U, 8GB Ram. Same problem. Long time Acronis user...never had issue with my Thinkpad X230 been backing up for years. CAN'T get a disc backup of my new X1 Carbon.....I guess I'll eliminate the 7gb recovery partition and get out of disc mode for backup. ACRONIS...PLEASE PAY ATTENTION and address this issue!!!
