HP Laptop won't boot after installing ATIH 2009
I've logged a support call re. this issue with no response yet. Out of desperation, trying here.
Machine: HP DV6 1131ea laptop
OS: Windows Vista Premium
Installed Acronis True Image Home 2009 on the laptop. During installation (or was it straight after...?), it offered to carry out a system backup. Opted to do that. It then asked for a reboot. After the reboot, it went into a non-graphical display and seemed to proceed with the back up. After approximately 25 minutes or so, the screen went blank and disk activity seemed to have stopped. I waited for another 5-7 minutes and seeing nothing happening, rebooted. As the Acronis installtion CD happened to be in the drive, Acronis Recovery Manager started. I didn't really want that. Rebooted without the CD only to find that the laptop would now not boot and came up with the error "No bootable device...insert bootable device and hit any key"
Is this a case of the MBR being overwritten by Acronis? What is the safest way to recover from this problem?
The laptop did not come with a Vista Installation CD and instead has a recovery partition. However, I did manage to borrow a Vista CD from a friend in the hope it can help resolve this problem. As of now, I have refrained from attempting any solution. I am hoping I can get some support and guidance here. Not having this laptop working is a serious disaster for me.
Can someone please help?
Grateful thanks,
Lal
