True Image Home 11 Restore Wizard problems

Thread needs solution

Acronis True Image Home 11 build 8053
Windows XP Home ver 2002 SP3
External Drive: Seagate FreeAgent Drive (E:) 500GB

Problem 1

I need to restore a file. When I tried to restore it using the restore wizard, it said the file was corrupt.
After looking for help, I found two posts (forum 5766 and 6297) that seemed to indicate that the product would not recognize by external drive on the USB, and the product was old (1-1/2 years) and no longer supported. However, there was a ISOLINUX file that could be sent via PM.

Will this ISOLINUX file allow me to access the backups on the drive?

Should I update to build 8101? Will that help?

If I upgrade to ATI Home 2010, will I then be able to restore using the backups I created with the ATI Home 11 version?

Problem 2

I had expected the restore wizard to ask which backup archieve I wanted to use. When I installed the product, I didn't want to risk having a corrupt backup when I needed it, so I created three image file names and three backup file names.
I would then rotate my backups using the three, with the idea, should I need to restore, I could select the most recent copy. If it didn't work, I could choose the next older copy. I did this editing in
Management Tools / Manage Tasks / Edit Tasks
Is there a way to select the backup copy I want to use?

Problem 3

I am doing backups through a network. If the host computer is down, would I be able to plug the external drive directly into my computer and be able to restore? I had assumed that the path to the files would be selectable at the time of the restore. The wizard did not seem to offer any options.

Sometimes a posting just gets lost in the shuffle of new postings.

Base Problem:

When booted into Windows and with TI installed, right click on one of the external disk backup files(*.tib) and choose the Explore option from the resulting right click menu.

Inside the *.tib file, locate the desire file and drag a copy of that file onto your desktop or other location. Once you have the copy, then you can open it or save it to your desired location. I do not know whether it is corrupt or not. Sometimes a corrupt file is an issue with your computer Memory sticks; or it could also be an issue with your hard drive at time of recording. Did you validate any of the backup creations using either Widows or the Rescue Cd?

If you have not done so, you may want to check your drive for errors. Hopefully, one of your backup files will be found to be usable and you can drag it from within the backup file using the Right click & explore feature. I currently have 2010 installed on my XP Pro sp3 and my use of V11 was a year or so ago. You might want to check item 7 inside my signature index for more info about the use of V11.

Problem 1:
An update to 8101 may help. Each update is a standalone and you should uninstall 8053 before installing 8101. Make new Rescue CD after installing 8101. Upgrading to 8101 should be one of the solutions you try if dragging/dropping does not work.

An IsoLinux Rescue CD may be of help but only if your current Rescue CD does not see all the drives.

A trial version of 2010 may (or may not) be able to restore your v11-8053 files. Acronis guarantees one version back which would be 2009. It most probably will but there is no guarantee.

Problem 2:
All versions of TI allows user to select the backup to be restored via the browse option. If you boot from the trial 2010 or 8101 or 8053, all should allow you to select the *.tib backup file to be restored.

Problem 3:
You should be able to plug in your external drive into your base computer and boot from the TI Rescue CD and perform the restore.
-----------------------------
If you are restoring a system file or your entire C drive, it is best that you are booted from the TI REscue CD when performing the restore.

I have Acronis True Image 11 running on Vista. A windows update crashed the computer. The computer would not start, so I had to boot from the Acronis CD. I had a good backup image which I was able to restore, and the computer was working fine for 1 day. I made and validated a new image because I had installed quite a bit of new stuff.

Then not being sure at that time that the windows update had caused the crash, I updated again. One of the latest updates caused it to crash again. I started another restore, and the USB drive with the backup image failed before it finished.

I bought a new USB drive enclosure and put the drive in and tried it. The Restore Data Wizard does not see the backup drive, so I can not choose an archive file to restore.

I can connect the USB drive to other computers in the house and access the files on it with no problem.

I tried some of the other wizards in the True Image Home program run from the CD, and they can see the USB drive. I even used the Activate Acronis Startup Manager to create an Acronis secure zone on it.

If you can, please advise how I can get the Restore Data Wizard to see the backup drive. Since the Restore Data Wizard can now see the Acronis Secure Zone, if there is a way to move the image file into the secure zone, that might fix the problem.

Thanks for your time.

Lawrence,
Send support a Private Message with your serial number and they can provide you with a link to an ISO file which can be burnt on CD. With the ISO created CD, you should be able to access your files. Your problem is most likely a driver issue with the new enclosure. V11 is several years old and lacking support for many of the new hardware.
